truebluexf Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 I'm watching the Omnibus previews and really like what I see...except the theology woven in. Is there anything else like this out there? Quote
3andme Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 Take a look at Old Western Culture from Roman Roads Media. It is a dvd or online video series that somewhat parallels Omnibus. It is a great books approach over 4 years with each year concentrating on a different era: Greeks, Romans, Christendom, and Early Modern. This is a christian curriculum but not as heavily imbued with theology as Omnibus There is a coordinating schedule and workbook available with assignments and readings. They also offer an online class if you were interested. It's currently on sale at HSBC if you're interested. Here's a thread with reviews from those who've used it. Here's a thread with comparison of Omnibus to OWC Some other options you might consider: Using Great Courses and Moocs - You could piece together something similar. The lectures by Elizabeth Vandiver are often recommended here for Greek and Roman classics. You can also check Coursera, Udemy , or Edx Moocs for free classes. In the past they have offered Ancient Philosophy - Aristotle and Plato, Classical Mythology, Ancient Greeks (more history), Ancient Greek Hero, Greeks at War: Homer and Troy , World Religions through their Scriptures. and other Literature selections although all the courses are not always available. Kolbe academy has live or self-paced courses following a great books approach with coordination Literature and History classes. (christian) WTM Academy offers online Literature classes following a great books approach. (secular) Great Books Academy 1 Quote
nobeatenpath Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 If you are happy with Streaming Compass Cinema has some great deals on Greeks and Romans, including a $12 a month subscription, and four lessons free. So if you are on the fence and want to try it out without a big one-off investment it's worth looking at. Quote
