Janeway Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 We are starting Monday or Tuesday. There is an end of year get together for some of our home school friends. Then, I am trying to decide if we should go ahead and start our summer school or wait until Tuesday. I have been chomping at the bit. We will be doing biology this summer. Anyone else excited to end the school year or to get started on their summer plans? 1 Quote

Anyone else excited to end the school year or to get started on their summer plans? Well, I would have to do something, because I am incapable of starting school on a Tuesday, lol. An easy first day is to just gather everyone and make sure all the books and supplies are in order, and then review the summer plan. My oldest dd is graduating high school, so we're pretty excited about that. She has most of her college books in hand and will spend some of the summer reading and reviewing, bc she has a challenging first semester. Younger dd will probably spend a lot of time on her new iPad, learning some digital art techniques and wrapping up her fine arts credit. 1 Quote

Congratulations on the graduating from high school! Quote
2ndGenHomeschooler Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 We will be finished with our regular work next week. We've already finished history. We'll take one week off before starting our summer session which will last until mid-September. I am really looking forward to our "summer school". We'll be doing LOF for math, and interest led history and science with journaling to get in some writing. I'm mostly excited to get in things that skipped the rest of the year like art and nature study and maybe Spanish and/or ASL. We may do a unit study on the Olympics too. There will also be field trips to the zoo, nature center, and NYC, a week of VBS, and plenty of gardening. We'll have 2-3 weeks of traveling in VA and out to MN where we'll be visiting family and doing lots of sight-seeing too. When we're home we'll do a couple of hours of school in the morning and then spend several afternoons a week at the beach or pool. I'm really excited about summer! :-) I love summer anyway but it was cold and rained every single day last week and today it's sunny and warm so I'm practically giddy about it. LOL :-D Quote
Emba Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 My DD will finish up the year's Math Mammoth and then start Rod and Staff math after a week's break. I'm really actually looking forward to it. I've been spending a lot of time looking at how things are taught and planning. As hard as it is for me to believe that I'm getting excited about teaching math, I am. I have no idea why, except that I can see how Rod and Staff is going to be a better fit for how she learns, and I just like having a physical book. I'm usually more excited about language arts type things, but the reading part of our summer is not really grabbing me yet. Quote
