I've been looking for a way to bring the spirit of these subjects back in our home. We had a couple years where we got into Martha Stewart Living Magazine. We'd do the projects and read all the articles. It was fun.

Now the kids are older and it's hard to fit this kind of stuff into our lives. I'm thinking of trying one or two classes over summer.

I'd love to hear some reviews before buying.  :lurk5:

My 13 year old daughter and I have each taken Craftsy classes in cake decorating, knife skills, scrapbooking, paper crafting, photography, sewing, and more.  We take advantage of the free classes and have paid for classes as well.  We like being able to pause and rewind parts and that we own the class and can come back and watch them later.  I am a 4H leader and my daughter is very active in 4H so Craftsy provides a great way for us to learn and expand our skills..  We have been with Craftsy for around 2 years.

DD has done a lot of classes in these last few years.

She asks them as gifts for her birthday and Christmas.

She has done Drawing, painting and atleast 4 -5 crochet classes.

 I took a cricut class.

We wait for a sale on the classes she likes and she has a wishlist

so I know which she is interested in and when its on sale

I buy it for her.

There are always free mini classes.  If you add them to your class list, they stay in your classes portfolio.  I recommend watching some to get a feel for the format of some of the classes.

I've done a few of their quilting classes, as well as some free knitting & cooking ones.  They often go on sale for $20, so I usually wait until that price.  I really like the ones I've done.  Attending a sewing class is not very likely right now, but these are so easy to fit in when I have time and every bit as helpful.

I love Craftsy for learning new skills! Last year I took Foundations of Spinning and Drafting from Worsted to Woolen, and they were both great. I just finished Amigurumi: Woodland Animals, and it was a really good introduction to crocheting amigurumi. I enjoyed it so much I took finished the class (and all 4 projects associated with it) in just 8 days! And it gave me the confidence to move on to more complicated stuff on my own (just finished a Minecraft Creeper for DS, and am making DH a Baby Groot now :))

The Sewing with Knits class was just so-so. The instructor talked way too slowly and seemed unsure of herself, so it felt like it took forever. But the information was good, and gave me the confidence to give it a go.

I agree with pp - they go on sale quite often, so wait for a deal. I've never paid more than $20 for a class (and you can get quite a few for $15 pretty frequently).

We do Creativebug.com. It's $4.95/month and you get to take unlimited classes! Plus, you get to permanently keep one class each month, even if you cancel your subscription. (Not sure what the Craftsy prices are, but thought I'd throw this out there as an option, too, since I think the price is incredible.) I am a knitter, sewist, quilter, etc., so we really get use out of our subscription. My girls also love the drawing and painting classes and my husband and I have watched all the cake decorating videos--highly, highly recommend this site!
