school17777
I am getting ready to order one of my college kids a big boat bag from LL Bean for a Christmas gift (ordering now because I have a gift cert ready to expire). I can't decide if I should put their first name on it, or our last name. They should have this bag for a long time. I use mine all the time. What name should I put on there? (I definitely want it personalized so it is not taken by anybody else) Edited May 6, 2016 by school17777
zoobie
I'd do a monogram.
justasque
I don't think a college kid would want their first name on a bag (ok for a team jacket, but too kid-ish on a bag), or their last (ok for the back of a sports jersey, maybe, or inside a garment; not so much on the outside of a bag). So I'd go with a monogram.
sassenach
Agree ^. Put their initials.
Pink and Green Mom
I used to run a home based monogramming business and did a lot of gifts and items for college kids. I cannot recall ever putting a last name on something like a bag. I would say it was pretty much 75 percent monogram and 25 percent first name for females, and almost 100 percent monogram for males.
Danestress
Last name! Eta explanation - a lot of people hate monograms. They were so trendy for a while, and people were even monogrammimg their cars. Some people might like the first name - I would not so much. I would greatly prefer my last name, but I have an awesome, short and unusual last name so that colors it for me. I don't know anyone besides my parents sisters and a few relative who have my last name. But I do think there could be security risks associated with any name on a bag. If I did a monogram, it would not be a fancy one - just block initials. Edited May 6, 2016 by Danestress
school17777
Thanks for everyone's input. I went ahead and ordered dd's and I put her first name because if she still has the bag and uses it when she has her own family, her initials and last name probably will be different. I don't have to order ds's right now, but I think I will order his with our last name on it. His first name is a popular boy's name and he already had his swim towel with his name on it taken because some boys thought it was one for their friends with the same name. (We got it back because we were walking back to get it when we realized ds forgot it and ran into the boys with it.)
Katy
Monogram initials. Monogrammed boat bags are timeless, not trendy.
