i keep going back an forth and I would love to hear what some other moms (and dads) would do in this situation.  I may stay the course anyway, but still would be nice to hear some other points of view.  I began an American History course for high schoolers with my 8th grader.  (She needed the challenge.) She started mid-year because she went to 6th grade half a year in public school and we kept having to start our new curriculums in January.  Fast forward to next year.  I have been adding to the curriculum to make it more interesting and fill in blanks (I LOVE history), but she is only about 1/3 of the way through the curriculum and school ends in 2 weeks.   Most high schools do American History after American Government in 10th or 11th grade.  So, should I put her on hold and just do the curriculum again in a couple of years or push forward.  She is mature and we talk about politics and history often in our house, but do you think she needs some more perspective until we continue on?  I can always go to a good World History curriculum... Thanks!!!

We did something similar.  We did a 16 month Civil War to Cold War extravaganza.  It was faboulous, with great readings and cool field trips.  I listed it as Modern World & US History and explained that it was US History in a World Context (since WWI, WWII and the Cold War was as much about what was happening elsewhere as US specific).  DS1 was in 9th grade that year.

We did AP US History again with DS1 in 12th grade and DS2 in 11th grade.

It is not unheard of for AP US History to be taught over two years.
