I dunno. There's a huge wildfire in Canada - people are being evacuated, homes lost, people putting their lives on the line to help.

Not a peep on your front page? You lead with donors *not* donating to Trump? That's like, a negative action. There's something not happening - that's your lead?

So done....

What's everyone's one stop shop online for news headlines?

Hmmm.  I watch CNN student news every morning with my kids.  It's just a 10 minutes world news overview.  Perfect for watching and discussing over breakfast.  One of the major stories today was about that fire.  So given the prominence on student news, I'm surprised.  The other major story was on the election.

NPR and BBC here---we don't watch tv but listen to the radio or streaming in the morning, at our lunch time, and during the late afternoon/early evening

The Economist weekly (subscription)

NPR and BBC here also.

Just finished watching CNN Student News with dd and the fire was one of the headline stories.

NY Times has it on the front page, but it's not prominent at all.

I used to work in an office where CNN was on all day.  It nearly drove me bonkers.

I always thought that their coverage sucked, it is totally image driven.

I avoid tv news generally but I tend to go for CBC or BBC.

I don't think there is such a thing as one stop news.

NBC and their local affiliate handle my TV news.  CCTV is also fun at times (if I have the letters right - China's news).  I enjoy seeing their take on things.  For whatever reason, we don't get BBC America on TV.  I probably don't pay enough.

Online I shop around including Fox and CNN (and others).  Can't stand either on TV TBH.  They all seem to have different things that catch their attention, esp in the smaller stories.  I can pick what I read.

I've seen the fire on all.  NBC last night did a segment on it.  It was on the local news this morning too.  When I work I leave before the National news, but it would surprise me if it weren't there.

Of course the Trump story is there too.  He's chased many of us away permanently - or at least for four years.  That is pretty newsworthy for our country IMO.  Let the party (and him) know.  He won't care.  The party should.  But that does it for what I'll say regarding politics due to Board rules.  Suffice it to say I see it as a major news story too.  I don't think I'd put it above the fire, but it doesn't bother me that it's there.

NPR

BBC

Wired

Sometimes US News and World Report

Copenhagen Post but that is just because of dh's Danish heritage. Occasionally though there is a piece about America and the perspective is much appreciated.

I gave up on CNN years ago. I get my news from BBC America.

Same here, but add NPR and CBC. Years ago I used to hear CNN called the Celebrity News Network. Every now and then I go to their website and see that it's still true. They're very pop culture oriented.  The only thing good about CNN is Anderson Cooper IMO.

I don't think there is such a thing as one stop news.

:iagree: I use a number of sources. We don't have cable or satellite so I get all of my world and national news online. Dh still likes the local 11:00 news so I usually watch that since the tv is on and tuned to it. However, I also get a lot of my local news online.

If I'm actually watching news, it's usually BBC which is on my PBS station.  Sometimes the PBS News Hour.  (Of course, comedy news too.)

Websites..... Google News (one stop shopping),  BBC, NPR, CSMonitor, etc.

It is on the front page.  Fourth story down on top stories.

Yes, I think it was there yesterday as well.

Not that I recommend CNN as a "one stop" news source, but they do usually have all of the breaking news.

If you have it set to the US Edition, it's there. If you set it to International, there's a picture of the feet of the Chinese baby who has 31 fingers and toes. The Alberta wildfire story has two videos linked lower than the headlines on the US page. Different setups.

Do wildfires in the US make front page headlines in other countries?

Yes --- it is there now. It most definitely wasn't there when I was looking at the page before. I triple checked!

It probably wasn't there.  When I went and looked it said 33 min ago.  So at the point you posted this here it wasn't there.

I don't love CNN, but I hate other news outlets more so...

CNN changes their front page frequently. It's the nature of the news cycle.

Actually, I think it would be much less likely for this to make it onto the front page of a printed paper, except for states very close to the border. It would be in the international news section. That's where online news actually has an advantage - this story was on the front page, off, then on again. They can change and respond to 'headline news' more quickly than print, and they have more room on their front page.

They will ere in Canada if they are very extreme or unusual.

If it's a really big fire or threatens a city, yes. The front page usually covers a combination of the biggest world and national stories.

BBC and NPR on line, NYT on paper daily and WSJ on occasion, dip into various others as particular stories and circumstances require LOL.  I love the Economist and intermittently subscribe, but it invariably makes me distressed because there's TOO MUCH of it and I never get through the entire issue and it PILES UP and then I feel like a slacker and then...

:willy_nilly:  :willy_nilly:  :willy_nilly:

Both NPR and BBC have covered the fire pretty extensively.

Oh, and yes, as mentioned, John Oliver is my FAVORITE!

His bit on Puerto Rico a couple weeks ago was actually the most solid overview in terms of actual content that I saw anywhere.  (Yes, there certainly is a political slant, and clutch the pearls re: language...)

If they are big enough.

The Canadian wildfire is currently second headline on the homepage of the UK BBC news site.

Actually, after I posted this I realized I'm probably looking at U.S. versions of the foreign new sites.

It was on the front page of The Guardian yesterday, too.

I phrased it badly. I see that the US national horror is just below the Canadian wildfire. I was wondering whether it would displace own-nation news as the above-the-fold story. It would depend on the variety of news happening at the time though. I look forward to when that particular terrifying political figure is no longer a top story here.
