lamppost Posted April 27, 2016 Posted April 27, 2016 If you've used the "Cover Story" writing curriculum, how did it go? Do you think it could be adapted for use by younger students? Maybe I'm just not seeing it, but I'd like to know roughly how long each video lesson is (like 5 minutes or 20) and if it would be possible to do it just once a week by combining several lessons. Here's a link to what I'm talking about: https://www.homeschoolbuyersco-op.org/cover-story/?source=138339 Quote
SilverMoon Posted April 27, 2016 Posted April 27, 2016 I've used the whole course already and am preparing to use it again with a 6th/7th grader this fall. We loved it! My creative writers thoroughly enjoyed it and their skills grew. My anti-creative writing kid hated it. My precocious/advanced little one used parts of it, but simply didn't have the maturity for other parts. In my opinion the listed grades are exactly right. I wouldn't use it with lower level kids and definitely not in a once a week format. Some units, like poetry perhaps, could be squished into a day, but the short stories, the interview, and more need to be spread out more than that, never mind the 5 sentences a day for the journal turning into 25 at a time. Ouch. The video lessons vary in length. Wordsmith Apprentice may be a better fit for you. Quote
