SeaConquest
Has anyone had success using mobile wifi to stream video/online courses while in the car? I've signed up my DS for an online class next fall, but due to scheduling issues, I would like to be able to stream the live class while we are in the car. Any tips? Thanks! Pawz4me
Not in a car, but in an RV. We use our iPhones as mobile hot spots when we're traveling. Is that what you mean? We're not homeschooling anymore, but DH and DS stream movies and sports sometimes. They'll watch on a laptop or iPad but use a phone to create a hot spot (so the data being used comes from our phone plan). I'm not sure that every smart phone can be used to create a hot spot. An alternative is to buy a mobile hot spot device. Verizon Mifi is an example. I think it's about $10 a month to add it to an existing plan. How well streaming works depends, of course, on how strong your mobile signal is. Edited April 27, 2016 by Pawz4me
Jackie
My husband uses his phone as a mobile hotspot, and he also has a couple mifi devices. DD just believes that Internet is everywhere because she can still use her iPad on cross-country road trips!
Rachel
We've used a mifi in the car for Netflix. It works pretty well as long as you aren't in the boonies.

Dmmetler
If the coverage map is good for your area, Freedom Pop has one that's $20 to buy, with cheap PAYG plans.
The Governess
We do class in the car with mobile wifi. The only issue I have had is while driving through a canyon, there are a couple spots where it always cuts out for a minute. Also, you will need a headset if you plan on using the microphone at all - otherwise the mic will pic up road noise. And be sure to have the laptop fully charged before leaving the house. ;)
mathnerd
If you have android phones, you can create a mobile hotspot. Freedom Pop is a good option too (in our area, Sprint network is used by it and the coverage can be spotty in some places, but it is fine wherever I need it to work).
