Suzanne in ABQ Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 I have a few cassettes that were recorded live several years ago. I would like to preserve them by converting to digital audio file. I have a nice JVC tape deck, and it has an Aux Out jack. Is there an app that will allow me to plug into my iPhone or iPad and record directly to an mp3 file? If not, is there another device I can use that will give good sound quality (well, as good as possible, coming from a cassette tape). Quote
Jamee Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 Great question! I have an interview of my grandparents I've been wanting to get digitized. We no longer own a tape player. Quote
kirstenhill Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 I used to do this by plugging the cassette deck into a desktop computer and using free software called Audacity: https://sourceforge.net/projects/audacity/ Quote

Good. I've heard of that, but didn't know what it was. I wonder if they have an app. My desktop and my tape deck are in different rooms. I have a little tape player, but I want to get the best sound quality I can. Maybe I can borrow my son's MacBook, or just cart my iMac into the living room. Quote
