Shelly in IL
Hi - just got a complicated blood test done. Trying to interpret the numbers and am working with a homeopathic dr. But I have a copy of the bloodwork and results are making me nervous. Most everything is in the normal range except: Serum folate >20 which is high. Vit B12 which is 1117 (normal is 211-946) Transferrin with calculated tibc 347 normal is 112-346 And low are: Total hdl - 17124. Normal is 23052-61374 Hdl partical subfraction -13887 normal is 17249-43006 Hdl large - 3237 normal 5038-17886 Ldl partical subfraction very small -79 mnormal is 90-237 IDL large 68 - normal 152-319 Vldl 22 normal 65-150 Lipoprotein is high 257 with normal under 75 Just trying to figure out if I should be concerned or seek treatment other than homeopathic at this time. Totally trust my homeopathic dr. Incidentally. Wondering about the mthfr gene, also Edited April 24, 2016 by Shelly in IL
SparklyUnicorn
What is your diet like? Do you take any sort of supplements?
Shelly in IL
I do take supplements. Juice plus, fish oil - just started because I have sticky blood, I take a variety of things from the homeopath to help with menopause, support liver and kidney function, biotin, calcium Diet - needs improvement. Not nearly enough green leafy veggies, recently kicked aspertame, enjoy meat, have a salad prob 5 times a week, some fruit, some veggies. Too many carbs. SparklyUnicorn
Yeah I don't know. The high lipoprotein can be a factor for heart issues (usually issues that are inherited). Is there any family history of that? I once was on a supplement kick. It caused me some issues. In particular I believe fish oil was causing my hair to fall out. I just stopped taking all of it. purplejackmama
I honestly have no idea, but wow on your vitB12 number. I've always been told most ppl are deficient (myself included).
Shelly in IL
I know. And if you google there are all kinds of scarey things related to the highs and lows I have. Cancer stroke, liver disease, etc. my dad has dimentia from tia's and that can be related to sticky blood. Diabetes is another risk. My fasting glucose levels look good, mbut Ive heard you need a test that does a three month look back. Just weirding me out! There's also a disease related to high b-12. Yikes! shanezomom
I take methylated B vitamins for MTHFR which my nurse practitioner tested me for because my homocysteine levels were high. I get very high B12 lab readings which she and our Lyme doc (different practices) say are not a concern. If you have "sticky blood," our doc recommends Nattokinase SD and Serrapeptase supplements. Shelly, the 3 month look-back is your A1c level which our doc tests for pre-diabetes determinations.
SparklyUnicorn
Google is sometimes NOT your friend. I know it's hard to resist, but a few times I thought I was doomed and wasn't really doomed.
rutheart
I have extremely high lipoprotein(a), which is a genetic thrombophilia. I've seen a hematologist, and don't require any on-going treatment unless I either 1) have an event or 2) ever get pregnant again. Over time, I've found that all of my lipid panel numbers are off, no matter how well I eat. Ruth
ktgrok
My B12 is about the same level, and my folate is pretty high too. I DO have one of the MTHFR genes, and have read that it can lead to a build up maybe, because you can't utilize the vitamins, but not sure if that is true. What I know is true is that my multivitamin has a crap ton of B12 in it, so I think that's why I was high at last blood test. I'm not worried and my doctor isn't worried.
