Garga Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 Does anyone know of any iPad apps that teach coding at the middle-high school level? Online I see something called Code Combat that looks good, but it's $9.99 a month. I'd prefer to buy once and done. If you've used code combat is it worth the $9.99 a month? How many months did you need it? I really don't want to spend more than $20. So if the kids have fun with it for 2 months, I guess that's ok, but if it takes longer than that, I don't want to pay for it. Quote
silver Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 CodeCombat does let you play for free. You don't have access to all of the levels, but there is still plenty of free content. Quote

SilverMoon Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 Not specifically apps, but there are plenty of free website options out there. Mine have done oodles of coding and we haven't paid for anything beyond the LightBot Jr. app so a younger sibling could be included. If you make a teacher account at code.org you can sign your kids up for their courses. Code Academy and Khan Academy have free courses. Messing around on Scratch has exposed mine to gobs too. They can look into the code of games and projects other people have made and tweak the code by taking away the loss of lives for example. Quote
SeaConquest Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 Not free, but my DS has been enjoying the coding classes he is taking through Youth Digital. I don't know what languages your son is interested in learning, but you could also work through a Scratch book, like Super Scratch Programming Adventure, or an Intro to Python book. Quote
