sheryl Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 DD is a junior. Is it too late for her to take the sat or the act? I can not find a comprehensive list of testing centers? It sees impossible. How to do this? Quote
catz Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 (edited) No - you can still take either the SAT or ACT in June. But deadlines are in early May, so sign up soon! https://www.higherscorestestprep.com/act-and-sat-test-dates/ You will see the list of test centers when you sign up. Almost all the larger high schools here run it. Edited April 19, 2016 by WoolySocks 2 Quote
JanetC Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 These are not like the PSAT or AP where you have to contact each school directly, you just register online at the test provider site. For the SAT, go to collegeboard.org For the ACT, go to act.org You really don't want a full list of test centers. There are too many all over the country. The registration sites will sort them by ones closest to your zip code as you register. But hurry, if you haven't missed regular registration deadlines for the June tests, you are very close to doing so. 1 Quote
catz Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 The ACT website ... http://www.act.org SAT website https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat 1 Quote
Arcadia Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 The June date for ACT and SAT has less test sites for us locally as some local high schools only host for the April date. Register as soon as possible because you want a test site as near home as possible since your child have to reach there preferably by 7:45am for signing in at the test site. 2 Quote
MerryAtHope Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 My son took the ACT in the fall of his senior year--not too late at all. Go to ACT's website to see when tests are offered in your area. 1 Quote
sheryl Posted April 20, 2016 Author Posted April 20, 2016 (edited) THANK YOU ALL! If we don't get In, can dd take one in the fall and one in the spring of next school year - her senior year? Can you take either the sat or act more than once for improved/higher test scores? Edited April 20, 2016 by sheryl Quote
Arcadia Posted April 20, 2016 Posted April 20, 2016 Your child can definitely take the ACT and SAT more than once. Some colleges superscore the results, taking the best score for each section across your child's scores. http://blog.prepscholar.com/colleges-that-superscore-act-complete-list http://blog.prepscholar.com/which-colleges-superscore-the-sat Quote
SanDiegoMom Posted April 20, 2016 Posted April 20, 2016 The latest date a student can take the ACT and SAT is Dec of senior year. The scores are sent directly to the schools before the final deadline which is usually end of January. Spring is too late, as most colleges start sending out acceptance letters in March/April. 1 Quote
livetoread Posted April 20, 2016 Posted April 20, 2016 The state schools my son is considering strongly encourage anyone interested in scholarships to apply by their early action deadlines. For some, these means the Sept. ACT is still early enough, but the October SAT is too late for at least one. They start awarding scholarship money to the early applicants, and if there is any left, those who applied regular decision get some. So, it's not like you have no chance for money if you apply regular decision, but your chances of money are greater if you apply early (for the schools he is interested in anyway). It isn't too late, but she should look at the deadlines for the schools she is interested in and plan to take it sooner rather than later. Quote
JanetC Posted April 20, 2016 Posted April 20, 2016 If we don't get In, can dd take one in the fall and one in the spring of next school year - her senior year? Can you take either the sat or act more than once for improved/higher test scores? You are running out of time for multiple attempts. Your test score will be due in November of senior year for early decision and February for most regular decision applications. This means January of senior year is probably your last test date. Scoring on the tests was delayed this year and many January tests of the ACT were late, so don't delay more than necessary. Use those test prep books beforehand and don't take the real thing as a practice "just to see where you are." 1 Quote
