College student and summer job etiquette

My college student dd applied for several summer jobs.  Interviews for all of them were 2 weeks + ago.  One of them has offered her a job (her second choice), and needs an answer this week.  She hasn't heard back from her first choice job.  Do you think it would be appropriate for her to contact her first choice and explain her situation?

Yes, she should call her first choice, and probably accept the second choice job (bird in hand) toward the end of the week if the first choice job doesn't respond quickly.  It's good to have a job where they really want you!

Yes, this is common practice as my dd explained to me, and she gets guidance from the internship office on campus, (they make sure students know their stuff.)
