We are starting our new plan for school this week so that I can prepare for our move. This will be a short week because DD and I will be out of town on Thursday and Friday. We are going with my mom and one of my sisters to a quilt show in Paducah, KY. DD and I are super excited for some girl time! Yesterday we had all the family over here for DD's 8th birthday. The house isn't too bad, but today the plan is to clean it back up, prepare for the week ahead and relax. I think we've got the relaxing part down! Currently the kids are outside playing baseball with their cousin, DH is napping on the couch and I'm on here. Here are our school/activity plans for the week:

Monday - read aloud, math, independent reading, writing, spelling, ballet for DD

Tuesday - read aloud, math, independent reading, writing, grammar, archery for the boys and ballet for DD

Wednesday - read aloud, math, independent reading, going to see a play, DD and I leave in the evening

Thursday - independent reading

Friday - independent reading, ballet rehearsal for DD

Saturday - ballet rehearsal for DD

I think I'm going to put my packing goals for the week in here too, just so that I see them and am reminded of them! Between now and Wednesday I need to make a flannel baby quilt and pack up all of my sewing/crafting supplies. It pains me to pack them away, but I know that I am unlikely to work on any more projects before we move. I would like to get a start on going through our school stuff too. We have been keeping it all in a big china cabinet and it has become the catch all for every bit of random stuff we find in the house. It is a disaster! I need to clean it out and start packing up all of the stuff we aren't currently using.

Time to get off of here and go do something!

Not much to report here, I'm still taking my unplugged challenge, only now I'm failing pretty badly. I think it has to do with how gray and wet the weather has been, I notice more use on grey, wet days than on sunny days. I've also conufuzzled myself again with mt ideas for what to do with my youngest next year, I think I'm pretty set for the middle schooler. On the one hand, I have a really nice program that would be great for him and I really can't wait another year for him to do it. On the other hand though, I'm really wanting to do a simplified plan of Just reading, writing and really getting this math facts down. I'm sure that I'll have it figured out before we restart in August, hopefully without losing too much sleep over it, lol.

This morning started with a snake in the henhouse, so that was exciting. It's been raining most of the day, and everyone has been trying to pretend we don't have chores to do.

Yesterday, DD had a meltdown over math, so we're going to put LoF away for awhile and work through some of the CLE light units I already had on hand (I bought the 5th grade books 2 years ago, and they've been sitting in the school room closet ever since because DD had a teary meltdown right after I bought it due to the long lessons), and it didn't take her nearly as long to complete the lesson as it used to. Today she still had trouble (she couldn't remember what an improper fraction was), but not nearly as much as with LoF, so we'll keep going. She's had a serious attitude about school recently, and I think it's causing her to block things out, even stuff she absolutely knows. She just blew up about diagramming a sentence and got sent to her room.

We still have to get through spelling, history and literature. History was supposed to be a movie (Yankee Doodle Dandy, as part of WWI studies), but I don't feel like she deserves to have fun schoolwork with her rotten attitude. Maybe tomorrow.

-Call pest control tomorrow to spray for wasps (they are making a nest under the back deck and NO WAY am I going in there after it)

'Tis the season. Dh found a snake in fil's workshop over the weekend and we've got wasps under the eve of our front porch. I need to remind dh to take care of that this afternoon while the kids and I are out of town. I don't deal with that sort of thing only because I'm a terrible clutz and I'd probably spray myself in the eyes, or the nest would drop right on top of me, or something equally ridiculous. Dh jumped in last night and made dinner because he said I was being so spac-y and clutz-y, he worried I'd cut my finger off or burn myself! Ha!

Today's plan:

-reading

-double spelling lesson

-morning poetry tea

-math lesson (starting a new chapter!)

-science week: nature study through setting up our potted plants outdoors for the season. Maybe a couple more bird feeders.

-piano practice

-mid afternoon trip to the "big" city to meet hs friends at a nature center.

-hit big box store and restock. Most likely eat pizza for dinner while there before making the drive home.

The boys are getting through work at a great pace today. I think we are going to have most of the afternoon for writing, reading, and relaxing while the rain moves in. :001_smile:

Monday -

This morning we went geocaching and found two caches not too far from us.

We made a bunny herb garden this afternoon.

The bunny was totally disinterested in the bunny herbs but then  he's never been out on the deck before.

More rain today. It's good writing weather, but I kind of need to step it up on the housekeeping. I didn't get it all done yesterday. I got lost in writing.

Today's schedule:

French-Unit 12

Latin-Lesson 20, 1 page, vocabulary review

Math-CLE lesson 15, 1 page KTD (they did half of the lesson yesterday-it was 32 problems and they were balking bigtime)

Writing-free writing, lesson in Harvey's grammar

History/Science-swap from yesterday

Literature-swap from yesterday

For me: French, Latin, Geometry, Writing. Goal of 2,500 words today. Housekeeping, and I might cook a little bit.

Jean- what a cute bunny!

Yesterday went well. Checked everything off the list and a good time was had by all. Today is a normal day for us. Lots of rain here, too, so we'll need to have a dance party and indoor relay races to get the energy burned.

Tuesday:

-2 loads laundry -going

-reading -done

-double spelling lesson -working on it now

-math

-science week Today we are stuck inside so no planting. I'll find something online that's related

-piano practice

-get chicken in oven to roast

-baths for all children

-get bags/supplies/clothes lined up for outside activities after early dinner

We have 4 weeks left of class here, then a week-long family vacation then we'll be starting up a relaxed summer schedule.

Week goals:

-DD has a b-day party Sunday afternoon for family so we're filling this week with cleaning :p

-Call pest control tomorrow to spray for wasps (they are making a nest under the back deck and NO WAY am I going in there after it)

-Complete summer financial aid application for my summer college classes

Pest control came for a consult yesterday, they are coming to treat for wasps and a few other pesky bugs on Thursday. This is nice timing because it means we can grill out after all on Sunday for DD's birthday party (there were 24+ wasps around/under the deck with the grill and I was NOT moving the grill).

I completed my summer financial aid form, scanned it and emailed it yesterday.

Got lots of cleaning done yesterday (the basement looks MUCH better) and floors all swept and mopped (another sweep Thursday and then a sweep and mop on Saturday and we'll be good for Sunday company). I'm still adjusting to having ZERO carpet and all hardwood.

I registered DD and DS for a swim clinic with the local high school. $30 for 8 lessons. How can you beat that?! Our scout friends say that they had a great experience with them too last year!! I confess I am pushing DS to swim team but he LOVES to swim and race with swimming. So why not? DD is one of those kids who wants to GO to the pool, not SWIM at the pool. I wonder if the summer swim team is part of the public school system or not. If it is I may need to dual enroll in the fall (EWWW) which might mean I have to revamp a few things.

Anyway, need to finish the front room today organizing wise and going to try to push some more math today (DS has 8 lessons left (probably 2 weeks) and DD has 23 lessons left (probably 4 weeks)). We have REALLY wound down school since we finished up our History and Science last month.

Today was a pretty good although I was nearly in tears most of the morning. It looks like I might have to get a root canal, I'm having a lot of sensitivity with the tooth they put the crown on last week. It's actually funny because I was having no problems with that tooth until they "fixed" it, ifykwim? I'm going to go ahead and call my dentist in the am and hopefully he can get me in before my dd's class. School was pretty good today but my younget refused to practice his song correctly, a short time out for him and me and we were back in the game. We got math, Latin, Spanish, grammar, literature and a short morning time done today. We're still having a lot of gray during the day so we aren't able to be outside much, I'm sure that's affecting everyone's mood a bit. I'm trying to show grace but man it sure is hard!

Tuesday -

Another very hands on learning day.  I'm excited that the weather is supposed to cool off tomorrow so hopefully we can go back to quiet book learning!

Dd and I, but mostly dd, cleaned out one of the raised garden beds and planted a vegetable garden.  We did a few other misc. things but that took most of the day.

againstthegrain, if your summer swim league is anything like it is here, you don't have to register with the local school district. Ours had a fee to join for everyone, and there were several homeschoolers, even in DD's age group. Basically, if you could make the practices and commit to attending at least 2 meets, they let you join.

Not much school-wise today, Tuesdays are "out and about" days with gymnastics and choir. Not much to report. I'm having to work extra hard with DD on her trampoline routine because somehow she seems to have forgotten how to do all the skills decently. I think the coaches have been letting her slack (this child needs constant, detailed feedback with no room for slacking and they're not really good at that - too many other kids to focus on), so I've got to start working with her again.

Mama25- bummer about your tooth. Hope you feel better soon.

We are dragging here today too, but that's normal for Wednesday morning since we are out late on Tuesdays. Another could, rainy day which also lends itself to dragging. I really should watch the long term forecast, because if I did, I would have just done another week of history! I have no idea when we will get outside to get our planting done! Maybe I'll look online for an easy kitchen science experiment as a one off.

Wednesday's list

-wash bath mats and kitchen mats -going

-reading -done

-double spelling lesson

-copywork

-math

-TBD science demonstration

-piano lesson

-quick grocery store run during piano lesson

-next school year planning

-dinner at in-laws

I amazed myself today ladies, we got up late as usual but, instead of complaining about it, I just got to work! Here's what we got done today

Folded laundry

Washed/ folded another load of laundry

Made muffins for breakfast

Did morning time, literature, math, Spanish, Latin, grammar

Made a nice lunch AND cleaned up afterward

Made appt with dentist for tomorrow

Paid a bill

It was such a fund day, Ds did music practice with no crying because I made it quick and fun, we'll do another session tonight before bed. We listened to some Klove during lunch, today was just so good, and guess what? It was a gray day! I'm so glad I didn't let the dreariness of the day ruin it for us, it's been awhile since we've had a day like today.

Is everyone doing ok?  It's quite unusual for there to be no new posts in 2 days, lol.  I hope you ladies are enjoying yourselves and getting alot done, i'm doing pretty good, my tooth is still hurting but i'm able to eat on it a little now.  My dentist did say that it could be normal for me because everyone's healing time is different.  We did alot of school this week except yesterday, yesterday we took advantage of the sunshine and went to the park, it was glorious.

Wed. - no actual school, but I did get 14 Key to. . . books at the local homeschool consignment shop for $2 a piece.  No school was due to some unavoidable errands 45 minutes away that seemed to keep multiplying.

Thurs. - I forced some school.  Dd is getting more and more resistant but she has to do school.  Period.

Friday - forced school again.  Dd cried quietly in the library over her vocab.  There was nothing really wrong with the vocab but I had to help her with a couple of things.  Now she's excited because she is actually done with vocab for the year.  I showed her when I got home, the test scores that show that vocab. is her best subject even though she struggles with it.

We're OK here. Thursday was a horrible, no good, very bad day with dd at the orthodontist. I was grouchy afterward so I didn't post here. We did get some school work done before the appointment.

Yesterday, dh stayed home with a cold and we have a big event today that we HAVE to attend. Only hospitalization would get us out of it... maybe. ;) So I spent yesterday sterilizing the house and keeping the kids away from dh. I was busy making him tea and soup to try to get him up to par for today. He's not 100% but he'll make it.

We did manage reading, spelling, and math yesterday. I'm happy about that. I'm doing better about making sure we still get some essentials done even when we get thrown a curve ball. A few months ago, dh being sick would have shut down school work completely.

MrsRobinson- I hope your dh feels better and that you're able to enjoy your function.

Today we got errands done and listened to our literature chapter and worked on some Spanish. I'm hoping to squeeze in some math and music practice
