Sherry in OH Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 I need to find a short-sleeved white or light colored dress shirt for my 10-year old son. Son is tall with a long torso. He seems to have outgrown boys’ sizes. We tried the young men’s department at Kohls. All the young men’s shirts seemed to taper. My son is still little boy shaped. His shoulder to hip dimensions more closely resemble a rectangle than an inverted triangle. Where should I look for larger boys’ sizes – 18-20, do they go any higher? Or men’s shirts in styles to suit a boy? Quote
TechWife Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 Twenty is th highest. My 19 yo son can wear a 20 in Levis jeans. They are half the cost of men's jeans with the same cut. We order them from Amazon because they are hard to find in stores. Give Amazon a try. Additionally, if you find a shirt he likes, try the store's web site if the store doesn't have it in n stock. Many times they will have only carry the most common sizes in the stores. Over the years I've found that harder to fit people often find more choices at department stores or specialty stores rather than at the lower priced options, such as Kohls and JC Penney, so you might want to prepare yourself! Over the next few years his body changes may even things out, though. Good luck! 3 Quote

Plateau Mama Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 Try the men's slim fit. We have started going to the Ralph Lauren outlet and getting my son the slim fit cut and they are perfect. $20ish at the outlet makes them a better price than JC Penny's etc. My son can do a boys 20 in Lands End but other brands (like Izod) he is out growing. My son is a bit taller than yours though. Maybe 5' 10". Quote
gardenmom5 Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 how tall is your son? 10 seems *very* young to be going higher than an 18-20. (online is good) I think I skipped 18-20 for 1 & 2 ds. I know I bypassed the jr dept for my girls. I've been ordering dudeling shirts (and now shoes) from amazon, and I've found higher end brands often fit better than "cheap" brands. (he wears a dress shirt at least weekly). Quote

We went to the city specifically to try Kohls because I was told they carried sizes 16-20. Size 16 was too small. They didn't have dress shirts in the larger sizes. I will try online. Thanks. Quote
Arcadia Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 My 5'3" boy wears size 14 Chaps for dress shirt and could wear my hubby's size XS Old Navy dress shirt. The cutting for ON and Gap dress shirts are not as broad shoulders. If your son's torso length is too long for ON and Gap, try Lands End men XS tall. Quote

They don't taper much, and are pretty straight, but they would only fit a fairly skinny guy. JcPenney online has also been a source of kind of between clothes as well as American Eagle. I found that shirts at AE ran small so fit the boys when they exited the boys' department, and they carry 28x32 and 29x32 jeans which are not always easy to find. They also have 26x28 occasionally online. Quote
