38carrots Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 (edited) I bought a canvas / leather bag at a thrift store. It looks factory made, but the leather parts look almost like they were hand cut (like the little leather tag on the zipper). It says "carrargdom", stamped into the leather, in two places. Above the name there's a design similar to this: http://www.clipartbest.com/cliparts/pT5/M8a/pT5M8a4Gc.jpeg I really like it, it is super cute and sturdy and just what I wanted and needed for $6. But now I'm so curious as to what "carrargdom" is, why it is not in google (usually I'd see other options with different spellings). What is this mystery carrargdom??? ETA: could be Carrargdonn. Googled that and Irish sweaters come up. Nothing else. No bags. Edited April 13, 2016 by 38carrots Quote
Spryte Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Could be a small business. I have friends who make bags and sell them at art shows. They may or may not show up on google, even if they have a website. 1 Quote
Lecka Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 A possibility is that it is a knock-off or a bag made at a nice factory but with a "knock-off" label sold in the country where the factory is located, with a much cheaper price. I have seen random labels with kind-of made-up words from things like that. It is just a thought. 1 Quote
TrixieB Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 (edited) Could it be Carraig Donn? (edited to change link - these bags look like what you describe, at least in my mind :) ) Edited April 13, 2016 by TrixieB 2 Quote

Thank you! I'm surprised google didn't suggest Carraig Donn, as normally Google gives me all kind of tips on how to spell better. Here's mine: http://www.shamrockgift.com/product/carraig-donn-irish-shoulder-bag/ 6 Quote

I really liked it without knowing how much it was, but now I might even like it a tiny bit better? I guess that's the excitement of a good find. And looks brand new too. Who would get rid of a nice bag like this?? 3 Quote
Jean in Newcastle Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 I love that bag! I'm assuming someone with different taste than ours, got it as a gift. 1 Quote
Um_2_4 Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Nice! I like to read these stories on here, as I know it will never happen at the thrift store near me. They have a person who sorts through purses/shoes etc to look for name brands and they auction them or price them at 50% of retail in a special section. (I often see purses at $25+.) 1 Quote
pinkmint Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 One of my favorite things to do is Google the label of a clothing or accessory item I got at a thrift store and finding out how much it would have cost new. 2 Quote

The cashier realized its value, and kept checking the tag (I guess checking whether I somehow changed it?). I could see she was quite confused. I've seen bags and some items here at very close to the original price. Quote
jan1216 Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 Yes, the name is Carriag Donn. There is an Irish mail order house that carries them. I just bought the shoulder bag at the Aran Woolen marketplace on Grafton St. in Dublin and paid a lot more than $6. You got a bargain. But I love mine. It is well made, stylish and practical. I too was curious about the company. The fellow in the shop could only tell me it was made in Ireland. 1 Quote
