fairfarmhand Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 My right eye is twitching like crazy. Like multiple times a day! This has been going on for several weeks. I just had my eyes checked so there's nothing else going on there. Ideas? Quote
marbel Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 This happens to me when I am stressed out and/or worrying about something. 5 Quote
maize Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 You could try taking an N-acetyl-cysteine supplement, it is often effective in controlling tics. Quote
sbgrace Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 I have had issues with twitching for years. Are you sleeping well/rested? Stressed? Those are my biggest triggers, and I think they are common twitching causes. Magnesium, theoretically, could help if there is a deficiency. It's healthy to take anyway, as long as you don't over-dose anyway! Quote
Southern Ivy Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 I had about a month of that. I was incredibly stressed with my job and my students. My eye went berserk. It's so annoying. I'm sorry! Quote
fairfarmhand Posted April 12, 2016 Author Posted April 12, 2016 ugh stress....that's what I was afraid of. That's probably it. And there's very little I can do about it right now. Quote
Jean in Newcastle Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 Magnesium. It helps when your body is under stress. 3 Quote
Cinder Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 I get this on occasion when I don't get enough sleep, but it goes away on its own after a good night's rest. Quote
Outdoorsy Type Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 Allergies and/or stress do it to me. Quote
itsheresomewhere Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 It is my sign that stress has made my B2 and magnesium bottom out. I increase my daily intake and it makes it stop. The twitchy eye is so annoying. 2 Quote
ILiveInFlipFlops Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 Stress for sure, but also dehydration. When this starts happening to me, I drink as much water as I can as quickly as I possibly can and then keep drinking over the next day or so. It stops after that. Actually, I notice that when I get dehydrated, I start to get little muscle twitches all over the place. It's a potentially easy fix! Quote
prairiewindmomma Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 This is my body's way of saying I'm low on magnesium. I up it, make sure to drink water, and it goes away in a couple of days. It typically only happens when I'm also stressed. Quote
klmama Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 Most likely stress. You could increase the magnesium in your diet (such as black beans, bananas, white potatoes). Nutritional supplements might help - be sure to research anything you consider. If you reduce stress, increase sleep, and improve your diet and the twitches still don't go away, be sure to see your doctor. Sometimes, although rare, the problem can be a sign of a more serious condition. Quote

I needed something with sugar (all I had for breakfast was an egg) so I went with a banana. Not long afterward, the twitching stopped. hmmm... Quote
Seasider Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 B6 shortage here. Hydration, bananas and a good B complex supplement should help. Quote
Ausmumof3 Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 This happens to me occasionally with stress. so frustrating. I did back off on the iPhone use last time and it seemed to help although it might just have been timing. Quote

plansrme Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 I get this, usually from stress. My oldest daughter did as well, but hers lasted for weeks, if not months; I actually thought it was a tic there for a while, but it disappeared for good as soon as a major stressor in her life (a gymnastics coach) disappeared. For her, when it flared up, we took her to an acupuncturist. He could fix it, but it always came back after a month or two until it disappeared overnight and for good when she changed gyms. Mine never lasted that long, so I've never tried acupuncture on mine. It's so annoying because it feels like if you rubbed it just right, it would go away, and it just doesn't. Quote
Pippen Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 This is my body's way of saying I've been consuming too much caffeine. It usually takes a few weeks to clear once I've eliminated it. Quote
Jean in Newcastle Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Bananas have potassium. Low potassium can cause muscle cramps. Bananas also have B6 and to a lesser amount, magnesium. Quote
gardenmom5 Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 mine will do that when I'm overtired and haven't been getting enough sleep. Quote
HSmomof2 Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 As others have said, stress and fatigue are the most common causes. However, my eye twitches when my thyroid is off and my thyroid meds need to be adjusted. Quote
