chilliepepper Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 I need to check off the "health" portion of my county review, and am obviously behind for this year! What are your recommendations for an online, or printable, or library-based Health unit that I could do with my 3rd and 4th graders in the next month or two? I know that simply checking out some library books and reading them would suffice, but just wondered if anyone knows of anything I might add, just for fun. 1 Quote
Angie in VA Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 (edited) Look at Guest Hollow's Little Otter Anatomy suggestions. Jenn's book list shows some that might work: Why I Sneeze, Shiver, Hiccup & Yawn The Busy Body Book: A Kid's Guide to Fitness Hello Reader: Make Your Way for Tooth Decay Eat Healthy, Feel Great Gregory, The Terrible Eater I'm Growing! Germs Make Me Sick Pasteur's' Fight Against Microbes Tiny Creatures: The World of Microbes Germs! Germs! Germs! Sleep is for Everyone Doctor De Soto What's Eating You? Parasites - The Inside Story No Thanks, but I'd Love to Dance: Choosing to Live Smoke-Free Watch Out At Home These might be too juvenile for your dc, but looking for these at your library may lead you to other titles that fit the bill. cbollin Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 Maybe the Child Nutrition and Cooking course from coursera would work if you're watching it with them? it's self paced. I don't know what you'd do to prove you did it for portfolio purposes (and not pay). maybe screen shot of quizzes after you get them? https://www.coursera.org/learn/childnutrition It might be too much for some children. But it's not intended as college or graduate work either. 1 Quote
Syllieann Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 Kids health. https://classroom.kidshealth.org They can do the grades 3-5 together. I would let them answer the questions for those they know and skip those lessons. 1 Quote

bluebonnetgirl Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 Harcourt Health and Fitness elementary texts plus their corresponding free printable activity book could work. Brainpop Junior health videos are also great! http://www.amazon.com/Harcourt-Health-Fitness-2006-Bunting/dp/0153375264/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1460463732&sr=1-2&keywords=harcourt+health+and+fitness+grade+3 http://www.harcourtschool.com/menus/health_fitness/planning_resources.html Quote

rutheart Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 I used a lot of online resources for 5th grade health, and I've posted those links on my blog: https://westwoodhomeschool.wordpress.com/2016/04/12/5th-grade-health/ Ruth Quote
MomatHWTK Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 This blog post focuses on heart health, but some of the links have general health resources as well: http://www.scienceisforkids.com/heart-health-month-ideas-printables/ All the links are to free resources. Internet safety might fall under the health category as well. I think Professor Garfield (it's a website) covers the internet topic. Quote
