freeindeed Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 (edited) We've used Saxon since kindergarten, but my daughter has really struggled with Algebra this year. I don't know if it's the content or the presentation. I've been looking at samples of Teaching Textbooks, both Algebra II and Geometry. We'll finish Saxon Algebra this year, but I'm considering switching to Teaching Textbooks for the rest of her high school years. I'm concerned, though, because I'm not sure if switching programs this late in the game is a good idea. What do you all think? Edited April 10, 2016 by freeindeed Quote
HollyDay Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 This is a tricky question. Saxon wraps geometry into their other programs so it is not a stand alone subject. Other curriculum houses, like TT have a stand alone geometry. The scope and sequence for Saxon and TT are different as well. Have you used the TT placement test? Were you thinking of doing Geometry next year with TT then Algebra II? Where is she having difficulties with Saxon? Is it with the algebra or the geometry? Quote

No, I haven't had her take a TT placement test yet. If we do switch, we'll probably go with Geometry first and then Algebra II. She has difficulty with both some of the Algebra and the Geometry portions in Saxon. We've gone through some lessons slowly and also repeated some of the lessons, and we use the DIVE cd. She doesn't want a tutor, and I'm not sure that would help anyway. I feel like pulling out my hair some days! Edited April 11, 2016 by freeindeed Quote
