FO4UR Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 I met SWB today at the StL Homeschool Expo, and you have to go and hear her speak if you get a chance. Her talk on the Real Child is so relevant b/c she is a Real Mom. My 11yo dd was with me, and she especially liked the bit about "Don't Go Global." (Guilty as charged.) It was very good for her to hear this talk today even though it's not really meant for the kids. She's my Miss Independent & Purposeful, and I think we both went away feeling much better about her school/life balance. I left with some fresh enthusiasm for teaching my boys too. Thanks SWB for birthing your children 12 years before me, (I realized today that we both have 4 kids with a 10 year age span.), and sharing your experiences and wisdom with us!!! 32 Quote
Hunter Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 I'm glad you ended out going and enjoyed yourself! 1 Quote

GailV Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 She was amazing! Did you stop by the WTM booth at all? 2 Quote
happypamama Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 Lucky you! I sure wish SWB was going to be at CHAP here in PA in a few weeks! 1 Quote
texasmama Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 I only have one item on my bucket list (just created this very second), and this is it. Jealous! I also have four kids with a ten year age span. 5 Quote
emmaluv+2more Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 Hi Gail! :seeya: I got to meet her as well. She is not only smart. but also very kind and compassionate. She was, indeed, amazing. I also have 4 children with a 10 year span (just thought I'd join the club)! 4 Quote
FO4UR Posted April 10, 2016 Author Posted April 10, 2016 She was amazing! Did you stop by the WTM booth at all? I eyed all of the pretty books. :drool5: I have much of it already on my shelves at home. I didn't need anything for the fall...but I almost snagged a copy of the Bible program for the 3yo...you know...for when she's older. I was good though. I will wait. It's funny that so many of us have 4 kids with a 10 year age span. SWB is a true trend setter. 3 Quote
arliemaria Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 I keep looking at my camera roll to view the picture of myself with Jim Weiss and Susan Wise Bauer from today. It really seems surreal to me. I have such an enormous amount of respect and gratitude for these champions of education. Hi Gail! 6 Quote
MrsRobinson Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 I'm so jealous!! The St. L convention is the nearest one to me and it just wasn't doable this year. Baby nurses waaay too much and he wants to get down and crawl around. He shrieks randomly. I wouldn't have gotten anything out of it. I hope SWB returns to St. L in the next year or 2!! Quote
LMD Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 So jealous! When are you coming to Australia SWB? :D You're a real asset to the homeschooling community, thanks for everything you do! Also, just have to join the 10yrs/4kids club. 7 Quote
Another Lynn Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 So glad you got to hear her and meet her! (I'm 5 kids in 10 years; and we missed SWB in Cincy this year!!!) 3 Quote

I actually know boardies in real life now! :hurray: I know we met more, but I don't know who -- more than once someone starting explaining things like the difference between the 3rd and 4th ed. of TWTM based on what's been discussed here in the forum. I sort of wanted to accost them and demand they write down their names. And everyone at my house is ready to reserve the Peace Hill Bed and Breakfast for vacation sometime. Although dd asked if it could count as history, so she has an ulterior motive (sorry, dear, but being within a certain geographic radius of SWB's presence does NOT count as history; you'd actually have to spend hours and hours discussing the subject with her, and that isn't part of the package). 2 Quote

FO4UR Posted April 10, 2016 Author Posted April 10, 2016 :D (you might not think that if you saw the state of my house, :D .) Pot, meet Kettle. :hat: Would you explain the bit about "Don't Go Global"? I'm curious and everyone seems to know but me. When your kid fails to take out the trash one day, don't globalize the issue and tell him that he's going to fired from every job he gets and be homeless b/c he's so irresponsible...for forgetting to take out the trash today. Not that I have ever had the above conversation or know ANYTHING about this... :gnorsi: 7 Quote
Peaceful Isle Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 I had 4 kids in 9 years...does that count? ;) Jealous you got to see her and hear her speak. How awesome is that! 2 Quote
