We have been using Saxon 7/6, 8/7, 1/2 and also Life of Fred and Khan Academy. My child loves to whiz through LoF so I fear that isn't enough. Yet I hear Saxon can be a nightmare for Al1 & 2 and he was already hating it and getting confused until he started reading LoF apples through some of Beginning Algebra.

My child does best learning 100% independently so there isn't someone to argue with, whine to, etc. Saxon homeschool was great for awhile but then it got too confusing. I am looking for some guidance as to where to turn. I like the idea of Teaching Textbooks but have concerns - price, it being on the computer instead of just bookwork, and lacking or too easy.

Another thought is - Is there another choice out there that I am not aware of or anything else?

Any guidance would be helpful :) Thanks!

I wanted to add we dislike common core. He could not handle Khan Academy until recently due to common core and even now, he is doing it more as a review and fun, than moving forward and I think alot of it is due to it being common core.

We loved (and still love!) Video Text for Algebra I & II. It's pricey, but excellent at teaching conceptually and fairly challenging. It's video based, so the instructor is not you, and the lessons are fairly short. Some of the earlier lessons are ridiculously easy if the student has had any pre-algebra at all, but they're essential to understanding the concepts in later lessons. My 2nd DS cried with Saxon and while he used LoF as a fun supplement, there wasn't enough there to really learn and practice the concepts as they needed to be learned and practiced. He is now thriving with Video Text, although it's still a challenge for him some days. Good luck!

Only downfall to CLE is there isn't a Sunrise edition past Alg 1. The other levels are rebranded Alpha/Omega Lifepacs

We're not there yet, but I'm planning on using Math Without Borders. The creator of Math Mammoth recommends it, the textbook is solid, the video lessons are well done, and it's quite affordable.

I would recommend to check out Derek Owens. We use their pre -Alg. And plan to use it for Alg 1 for my youngest and geometry for my oldest.

The algebra is based on dolciani but he no longer follows the text, you just use his workbook and videos ;)

A good friend of mine uses and loves VideoText - :) you could put that on your list as well
