The official announcement came out today. This is five years straight and a nice way for two of the team members to end their senior year.

I am very proud of them. Unfortunately, due to serious 4H budget problems in our county, the extension office nearly closed and there has been no promotiom of the team this year. We do have a local newspaper interested in running a story.

775 teams competed for a spot, top 100 invited so it is a real honor to make it again.

If you want to know more, www.rocketcontest.org is the official website for the competition.

Wow!  Faith, with everything else going on in your life, I did not think that you and your husband could manage the rocket team this year.

I'd love to help the team with a donation.  Let me know in a PM.

Thanks Jane!

It was important to us, especially for the sake of the seniors who would not have a chance to ever do this again, to keep up with it which wasn't easy, but very much worth the crazy juggling of our lives. But, it in some ways wasn't as hard as previous years either. These three are just cracker jack amateur engineers, and require very little work. They are diligent, motivated, and good friends so they work super well together. It is a good group dynamic. We supervise the safety elements as require by TARC, and are there when they launch, and by that I mean we sit and have coffee with our friends who let us use their horse pasture as our launch site until the boys come in and say, "We are ready." Then we saunter out to the field, watch it go, time it, examine the eggs, listen to the altimeter, and go back inside until they are loaded and ready to go again. They have needed fewer practice launches than when the team had seven on it and members to train. It was not an easy year for us personally, but in terms of the rocket team, it was.

It has been that way with the larger club as well. Our 4-H parents have rallied around us, providing us with a lot of support and help. They ALL stay at the meetings supervising their own children, making sure that it goes smoothly, and they've done nice things for us like bring meals, bake, etc.

Thankfully the special millage went through because we almost lost 4-H and the extension office this year since the county is struggling financially.
