happypamama Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 I have an iPad 2 (with the latest OS) and use it to text DH's iPhone all the time. I'm considering getting an iPhone, probably an iPhone 5 because I'm too cheap to buy a 6 since I don't love phones much at all. The advantage would be that I could text people who don't have iPhones, whereas my iPad will only text other iPeople. I do currently have a 3G plan on my iPad so that DH can reach me when I'm not at home. If I get an iPhone, I will drop the data plan on the iPad. (I could use either Verizon or StraightTalk for my iPhone, and I think it would be the same as what I'm paying now for the iPad data plan plus my dumbphone, and then I'd be able to text people better than I can on my dumbphone.) So my question is this: with an iPad 2 and an iPhone 5, can I use my iPad (with the better keyboard) to text DH and other iFriends via Wifi when I'm at home or somewhere with Wifi, but use my iPhone for texting DH when I'm not at home (and non iFriends whenever), and have the messages from the iPad carry over to the iPhone automatically so that they show up as the same thread on both devices? I know the newer iPads can do this -- can the older ones with the new OS? (Even with the new OS, there are still some things the iPad 2 won't do. I'm not sure if this is one of them.) Quote
Sun Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 Yes, you can as long as both devices are signed into the same icloud account and you have them both set to receive messages sent to the same addresses (you can check if you want to receive messages at the icloud email address and your mobile number). 2 Quote

Perfect -- that's just what I wanted to know! Thanks! Quote
