We are doing RS B and MM 1...he did the first half of both for K and is just starting the second half of both for 1st...

Next year we will do MM2 and LOF (because it makes us giggle and we can't seem to stop ourselves)...

Would BA 3 follow these ok? I heard somewhere that maybe we would need to at least do MM3A first?

I am hoping to streamline math by that point and I know my kiddo would like BA... But I have to plan as early as I can for any purchases because of income... Thanks! ( I have the MM downloads... So would like to avoid buying BA2 if it is even out by then)

DS6 is just finishing up MM2b now, as a 1st grader. Based on other posts on the subject, I've decided to do MM3 completely, then BA3 - granted, MM is our main curriculum and I will use BA more as a supplement.

Many people said BA3a is the hardest book in the series, so I want to make sure DS has the knowledge base and additional year of maturity to meet the challange.

We finished MM2,a nd started BA3 without any problems.  I am drilling mult. facts separately (not to that yet in BA, but I want to be prepared).  I plan a mixture of MM3 and BA3 for 3rd grade.  The 3A book has been pretty hard, but we have done a lot of it together and parts have been really fun!

Math Mammoth and Beast Academy cover a lot of the same things, so you don't necessarily need to to MM3 before Beast Academy 3.  Beast Academy presents it differently, and adds in a fun way of looking at math and problem solving.  I believe they both are complete math programs.  We have used both this year - started with Beast Academy, took a break and did MM3 for a while, and now are back at Beast Academy.  The things that we covered in BA I skipped in MM.

For 2nd grade, he did a mix of MEP, Miquon, and Life of Fred and did fine going straight into Beast Academy.  I added in MM because I have a bundle of grades I have used with my older child.

Thank you this helps a lot... He likes math but seems to enjoy changing presentations, and seems to need a pretty engaged and challenging presentation alternated with a bit more consistent and incremental workbook... I have the digital MM thru I think 6... So I imagine I will do something similar... Thanks everyone!

I think some kids need to learn the material in a more simple way before jumping into Beast (mm 3 first), and some kids can jump right in without it. My oldest likes to start simpler and then move into beast, so we end up zigzagging between two programs. I can already tell my next will want to just jump right in.

Since you already own mm3 there's no harm in trying to go straight into Beast and if it's not working, you can either alternate the programs, or complete mm3 and try beast again afterwards.
