Hilltopmom Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 Taking oldest to Meet with advisement at CC to talk DE this morning. "I" am ridiculously nervous. Teen is not. I think because it's the beginning of the end of our homeschool together years & well, also they are reviewing his transcripts, course descriptions, etc- so it's a scrutiny of "my" years of planning & work too. It's CC, they accept everyone who wants to go as non matriculated studebts, I should not be as nervous as I am. Geez, mom, get a grip:) Wish us luck anyways. 4 Quote
importswim Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 Good luck!!! I'm not there yet, my kiddos aren't in high school, but I still want to wish you good luck! 1 Quote
DebbS Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 Good luck! I bet you'll impress them. My final homeschooler dual enrolled this year for some courses. It was a really good experience because she gained confidence in her ability to do college level work. Homeschoolers often don't know where they stand compared to other students entering college. For me though, it's bittersweet when my children take the next step toward growing up and leaving home. I sometimes have to go shed a few tears alone because I certainly don't intend to guilt trip them or hold them back. As parents, we raise our children to become responsible adults and then (darn them!), they go and do that! 2 Quote
Dmmetler Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 I was amazed at just how easy it was for my DD to be accepted as a non-degree student (she doesn't qualify for DE because she's not a junior or senior). It was honestly "oh, she has an SAT over the minimum? Done!" Now, whether she can actually get into any classes of interest to her, since she's at the very back of priority for registration is another question, but getting accepted was easy. 2 Quote

My oldest is DE for two courses at the CC this fall. He had to take the accuplacer, and when we got his scores I almost cried I was so happy I hadn't failed him. It was such a relief. Of course, now I'm internally freaking out that he'll do poorly in the actual courses . 3 Quote
quark Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 Good luck! I remember the day and how nervous I was. But it was a lot easier than I expected. Is it for your 15yo? Some of the homeschoolers we know 14+yo and above simply applied online and were admitted. 1 Quote
elegantlion Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 I was very nervous sending in ds' transcript to his university, mainly because I attend there as well and I felt like my administrative role might be ridiculed. Thankfully, I knew they were used to dealing with homeschoolers, but I knew his transcript would reflect upon me as well. 1 Quote
Hilltopmom Posted April 8, 2016 Author Posted April 8, 2016 It was super easy:) Non matriculated students don't even have to take the accuplacer, which I found odd, but he's going to. He's much more excited about going there now that he's talked to them about classes too (had already done a tour last month). Now we cross our fingers he can get a spot in one of the classes he wants when enrollment for pt students starts! 3 Quote
quark Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 Now we cross our fingers he can get a spot in one of the classes he wants when enrollment for pt students starts! :hurray: for him. Quick tip: turn up on the first day of class even if class is fully enrolled. If the waitlist is about 10-20 people strong it might not work. But if it's a short list he might still get a spot because sometimes students don't turn up on the first day and the prof might hand out add codes to the next bunch of waitlisted students. Kid got into a math class that way his first semester at CC. Good luck! 3 Quote
