Penguin Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 For world literature next year, I want something from Mexico. Any suggestions? Novels, short stories, poetry or essays. Right now, I am leaning toward something by Octavio Paz. If you can recommend a particular work by Octavio Paz or would like to suggest a different author, I am open to ideas. Quote

chiguirre Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 The Death of Artemio Cruz by Carlos Fuentes might be a good choice. It's sort of a Mexican Citizen Kane. It covers a lot of modern Mexican history, it's relatively short and it's definitely considered a modern classic. It's got adult content so you might want to preread. 1 Quote
Emerald Stoker Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 I read the Fuentes book long ago, and remember it being very good. Another one I remember reading back then was Mariano Azuela's The Underdogs, which I also liked. 1 Quote
