astrid
While I still do think that Gwen Ifill will manage the debate professionally, it does appear that she never actually notified the commission about her book. But then again, *I* read an article about her forthcoming book in Time Magazine in August, and also saw it mentioned in The New Yorker sometime back in July. And who the heck am I? I cannot believe the McCain camp is claiming they didn't know about Ifill before late last night. It just doesn't seem plausible to me. If the McCain campaign had even googled her name, they'd have discovered it. They're acting like it was purposefully hidden from them. Geez, I google the name of the instructor before I sign up for a knitting class. astrid Edited October 2, 2008 by astrid spelling

The MSNBC article I linked to simply said that she did not inform the commission, and that the McCain campaign had no immediate response. ETA: Didn't McCain state today that he had no concerns over Ifill as a moderator? i believe there is a YouTube available of it - I recall seeing it linked. So McCain made that statement on video, but his campaign is crying foul? I'll go looking to see if i am recalling correctly.
Mama Lynx
Yep, I was remembering correctly. Here is the and the campaign is stating that they were unaware of the book. So they are claiming that they did not know, but are also saying it's a non-issue.
astrid
Here's another Fox News clip with McCain folks (supporters, at least--- my audio was cutting out) stating that Ifill had better go easy on Palin tomorrow and not ask too many foreign policy questions or she (Ifill) will have to answer for it. http://talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/220563.php And here's some more dissent from within the sphere of Camp McCain: http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/10/mccain-and-pali.html

astrid
And then there are those troublesome "Name a Supreme Court decision with which you disagreed" questions. I sure hope she stays away from those too. Exxon Valdez ? Astrid;)
