Carrie12345
I was able to attend a screening of this movie last night. http://www.mltsfilm.org/ It was presented by our community college, attended by education students, local teachers and administrators from our K-12s, the cc, our local university, and a state representative. It was a great movie (maybe a little slow-moving,) the premise being that huge changes are needed in our school system, primarily due to our rapidly evolving job market. Their focus was on High Tech High in CA and their project based learning methods. I got rather emotional while watching it, as it added another layer of confidence in my decision to homeschool and inspired me to continue to work at being more adaptable and creative. I was really looking forward to hearing what professional educators had to say about the film, and they did not disappoint when it came to voicing their support for changing our education system! From students and first years to retirees, there was confirmation after confirmation that today's methods are bad for kids. But what got to me was that not a single person touched on how to change. Anyway, I don't think I've seen the film mentioned here before, and wanted to put it out there in case anyone is interested in finding or hosting a screening near them. It's worth the time!
RootAnn
Haven't heard of this. Thanks for posting. (Edited to add - closest screening right now is 8+ hours from me. Will wait to see if it will come within 2 hours.) Edited April 7, 2016 by RootAnn
sassenach
We have a good friend who is opening a charter school based on some of the ideas modeled in this movie. They're using the movie as a recruiting tool. I'm excited to see it play out.
