pocjets
What are your favorite teaching guides, helps, seminars, manuals, etc? I'm looking to purchase some things that will aid me in becoming a better teacher. I'm interested in all areas! Thank you!
PeachyDoodle
Kate Snow once recommended John Van de Walle's Elementary and Middle School Mathematics: Teaching Developmentally to me, and I have found it quite helpful. Math is by far my hardest subject to teach. It's a textbook, so newer editions are pricey, but I have the 6th ed. (her suggestion) and it is reasonably priced used on Amazon.
Hobbes
I have found helpful: The Writer's Jungle/Partnership Writing The ABC's and All Their Tricks Deconstructing Penguins You Can Teach Your Child Successfully The Well Trained Mind (of course!) Honey for a Child's Heart (more of a resource booklist) I just got Knowing and Teaching Elementary Mathematics from the library - looking forward to that one, as it comes highly recommended. I've been listening through CIRCE Institute podcasts. Some are better than others so it's a bit hit-and-miss but there is good stuff there. The Read Aloud Revival podcasts are enjoyable - again, depending on the guest, some are more informative than others.
cottonmama
Teach Like Your Hair's On Fire Teach Like a Champion Knowing and Teaching Elementary Mathematics Teaching from Rest (especially the companion interviews) Project Based Homeschooling, maybe? The approach didn't work for us, but maybe it will for you? Either way, it's a good read. But actually, some of my favorite resources are free: Julie Bogart's Periscopes Read Aloud Revival podcasts Andrew Kern's lecture on Socratic Teaching (and other episodes from the CIRCE podcast)
