PagesandFields Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 DD picks up enough school from tagging along that I am not worried about her learning, and am one of those "let them play" parents.... HOwEVER she has decided that during school time, if she can't do school she will just have fun(sounds great right) by making the very biggest mess possible... I mean epic... :) without spending a FORTUnE on maze, coloring, tracing, etc... Books are there are affordable, online, free, or anything that I could print for activities for her? She is doing it because she is frustrated... And if I use the time to give her a new fun toy to play with DS resents it and won't focus... Sorry for bad typing, on a tablet.... Quote
HomeAgain Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 Our teacher store and Sam's club carry wipe off books. Maybe those would be an option for her? I know we had one of dot-to-dots and one of drawing shapes. Or if you can't find something like it, you can make your own by slipping pages in sleeve protectors. 1 Quote
Tumbatoo Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 I've always liked the Kumon workbooks for that age 1 Quote
TriciaT Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 Yes, some simple write and wipe books, or even just some printable alphabet tracing pages might go a long way. When my second hit that age, I also had a few things just for school time- play dough, a sensory bin, little paper craft, etc. I remember looking up and printing lots of paper dolls for her to color and cut out. (She was too little to do the tabs, so she would just glue the clothes on or use some sticky tack.) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1 Quote
ReadingMama1214 Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 We have Handwriting Without Tears K and my 4yo loves it. Or even a handwriting workbook from Amazon or Costco. Math manipultives such as crods, unifix cubes, counting bears (we have a huge set with activities and they're loved here). She also loves the workbooks that have everything in them. We have a few K leve ones that she enjoys doing. Or some supplies for art that aren't too messy? Dot paint, colored pencils, glue sticks. Plan a craft she can do during you school time? My daughter also began reading and asked to learn. We maybe do 15 minute lessons on phonics each day. She still plays the majority of the time, but has really loved learning to read. We do a lot of games with it too. Quote

My daughter has a magnetic "paper" doll set that's fantastic. The dolls are wooden with magnetic clothes that attach to them. Great for imaginative play! 1 Quote
Seeking Squirrels Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 My preschooler loves doing lapbooks. There are a ton of free printables online. We look together and she chooses one. Right now she's doing "if you give a mouse a cookie". It's mostly cutting, gluing, and coloring, but at the end she has a folder she put together and she's "doing school" like big sister. 2 Quote
ExcitedMama Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 I find DD has moments where she happily plays by herself when I do school with DS and others where she's right on top of us causing trouble. When she wants to be with us I give her something she only gets at those times, like tanagrams, special coloring books, Kumon books, reusable sticker scenes, puzzles, lacing stuff, magnetic dress up scenes, water painting, etc. If you browse Amazon you should find lots of options for reusable things that are more learning toys than workbooks. Jacbeaumont Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 (edited) I like to find activities from This Reading Mama, The Measured Mom, No time for flashcards. 'All by myself bins' from 1+1+1=1 would be good, too. They are pretty much an older version of toddler busy bags. Sent from my U9200 using Tapatalk Edited April 7, 2016 by Jacbeaumont 1 Quote
Peaceful Isle Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 I wish my k4 guy wanted more books. He thinks life is a playground. :p 1 Quote
PagesandFields Posted April 12, 2016 Author Posted April 12, 2016 Well, since I started this she has discovered the ETC books that I had set aside and that seems to be satisfying her... :) Quote
