However it has talked about it in a general sense, as in when you get to 10 trade them in for a ten rod. They even have a song about it! We're almost halfway through RightStart B and the final preparation step for the standard addition algorithm is still a few lessons ahead. We're using base 10 block pictures and the back side of the abacus (labelled with place value) to add numbers in the thousands. A few lessons from now (about 75 of 140) it adds in marking your abacus bead trades on paper in addition to physically moving them on the abacus.
