Pegasus Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 DD and I have both had multiple interactions with the transfer coordinator assigned from the state flagship university to her community college and could never really get the detailed information we were seeking. Last weekend, we spent Saturday at a future-student day at the university and made sure we hit the talk for transfers. Both of our expectations fell when we walked in and saw the same transfer coordinator we've dealt with over and over again. Fortunately, at the last minute, her boss also joined in and I was able to ask a couple pointed questions during the presentation for clarification. Afterwards, DD was able to talk one-on-one with him as well and, wow, we finally have some solid answers on DD's chances for being accepted into her competitive major as a transfer and the possibilities for scholarships. It wasn't all good news. By following the specific school-to-school transfer guide, DD's classes will transfer directly on a one-to-one basis but she won't be earning an AA or AS at the community college. This makes her ineligible for the automatic transfer scholarship. Since DD will be transferring during a spring semester, most other scholarship money will have already been given out to fall entry students. This is what we expected but couldn't get a firm answer on earlier. He did say that continuing students are also eligible to apply for the scholarships so she could try for the following year. On the other hand, while he obviously couldn't make any guarantees, he said he would be quite surprised, given DD's current academic record, if she wasn't accepted into the program. So, lesson learned, if you can't get the information you need from the first resource, keep trying until you find someone who can help! 2 Quote
