AimeeM Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 My doctor very recently put me on Wellbutrin (150 mg daily, suspended release). As in, a couple days ago. He is very aware that I've been fighting a cold for weeks (upper respiratory something - myself and my kids, and now part of my chess club, have been going down with it for WEEKS now) and that I have been taking Nyquil and Dayquil pretty consistently (as has everyone in the house). I know Wellbutrin is NOT an maoi, which is what the Nyquil bottle says I can't take with it, but my Wellbutrin bottle says not to drink any alcohol with it... and the Nyquil bottle says "10% alcohol." I'm miserable. I want my Nyquil and I want to go to bed. But I also don't want to mess with a medication I'm still relatively new to. Quote
Loowit Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 I never take cold medications, so I can't help much. But I would recommend calling either your doctor or pharmacy and asking if it is okay. Our pharmacist is great with answering those sorts of questions. Hope you feel better soon. Quote
Lawana Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 So you would be getting 3 mL of alcohol in one dose of NyQuil. A little more than 1/2 teaspoon. I am afraid I would totally risk it. 1 Quote
melmichigan Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 (edited) I would take it. The problem is with excessive amounts of alcohol, not that in Nyquil. The only caveat would be if you have pre-existing seizure disorder. Then I would consult your doctor. Edited April 4, 2016 by melmichigan Quote
AimeeM Posted April 4, 2016 Author Posted April 4, 2016 No seizure disorder. This appears, from what I've read, to be a relatively small dose of Wellbutrin (but it is extended release, so it's always in my system). Doc was definitely aware of what OTC meds I am taking (and have been taking for weeks now), since that's actually the reason I was in his office in the first place (can't shake the cold and my chest sounds terrible). I probably will take it tonight and I'll call his office tomorrow to double-check that it's okay to continue. It's the only way I'm sleeping lately. 1 Quote
Spryte Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 I'd take it tonight, and double check tomorrow. Feel better! Quote
maize Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 I think the small amount of alcohol in NyQuil would be fine. Quote
