Critterfixer
Good morning; it's April. That means I have about eight weeks of school left before a break and summer term. Maybe seven. Today's schedule: French-Unit 11 Latin-Lesson 18 continued Math-Quiz, 1 page KTF Writing-we are done with everything I wanted to do with fiction this year. I believe I will have the boys take some non-fiction resources and play around with those this week. Or maybe I'll just double up on grammar and let them free write to their heart's delight. Haven't decided yet. My list: French, Latin, Geometry, NaNo project 2,500 to 3,000 words today, laundry. We are supposed to take a drive through the mountains later this afternoon.
Aurelia
Today so far: we had house guests who just left, so not much has gotten done. I need to clean the house and exercise, but I'm not sure how much of that will happen. DD is out riding with a friend. It's the first chance she's gotten since Christmas. We'll be super-busy this week, what with DD's birthday and an out of state meet this weekend, but I hope to get some school work done Monday-Wednesday, at least. We'll see what happens. I just finished wrapping DD's birthday presents, and because I refused to buy more wrapping paper or gift bags, she has an assortment of Batman (not Spiderman, but still pretty cool) and Disney Princess/Frozen (SO embarrassing! That's for little kids) gifts, LOL. Sometimes being the parent of a tween is fun.
Aurelia
Well, we got a lesson in ELTL (amplification - she did pretty well!), a chapter in LoF and a redo of the art lesson from yesterday because DD enjoyed it so much. Also got through another chapter of The Hobbit. At this pace, we should finally finish it before the next school year starts! We've been s.l.o.w.l.y. listening to it since October, I think. I got half a workout done, and dinner made, so I guess today was a success.
Critterfixer
We had a nice outing yesterday. We drove north, found our favorite creek, and the boys explored up and down it for several hours. DH and I parked our camp chairs on the bank and just watched the waterfall. Very relaxing. I got home, took care of things and got my word count. So an all good, very nice day was had by all! Today's schedule: French-continue unit 11 Latin-continue lesson 18 Math-lesson 6, 1 pg Key to Decimals Grammar and Composition-Spelling practice, work on the non-fiction narrative History-Introduction of OUP Age of Voyages and part of Cp 1, questions, Cp 6 in The Black Death Science-Cp 2, sec 3, Exploring Space, questions, pg 19-34 in Planet Guides, Venus Literature-Robin Hood, Cp 4, pg 19-27 Canterbury Tales For me: French, Latin, Geometry, Writing (2,500 word goal today), Housekeeping
Laura Cook
This is going to be a busy week. Now that the weather is warming up the homeschool groups we are in are getting much more active in planning park days and field trips. I went a little crazy this week signing us up for stuff on top of our normal activities. Oops! April just looks like it is going to be busy. Today is one of the lighter days. Planned for today: Read aloud Memory work Cursive States & Capitals Reading Math Writing Spelling Grammar Science Games ? DD7 has a ballet class to make up this evening.
Critterfixer
I had a pretty productive day. We did a full day of school and finished one hour ahead of schedule. We have put a dent in the leftovers (no cooking today) which was necessary before I did more cooking. I got the laundry done, the dishes and cleaned the sections of the house that are scheduled to clean on Monday in record time. I then sat down, jammed my ear plugs in and wrote almost non-stop for 2.5 hours and got 3,021 words on the day. Then I went out for some fresh air (and to walk dogs) and found that I had two groups of bees investigating some old bee equipment. Since it is swarm season I set up some potential sites and we will see what we will see. :001_smile: I think the little trip up to the waterfall yesterday did my creativity a good turn.

MrsRobinson
Super busy weekend followed by super busy Monday. Just as we were wrapping up morning chores, the dentist called with a last minute cancellation so we could get ds's cavity filled. It's 30 minutes away so we had to book it. But we got school work done in the afternoon. Dh, dd and I have a speaking engagement in May and our first meeting with the rest of the group that is part of it was Saturday. The rest of our Saturdays are devoted to rehearsals and dress rehearsals at that so dd and I needed to go shopping. 30 min opposite direction of the dentist of course. So we put it off til dh got home and could watch the boys. I had dinner in the slow cooker for them, so I didn't feel too bad. ;) BTW, Monday at dinner time is a great time to go to Target. We had the store to ourselves! Today is catch-up day. -start chicken in slow cooker -done - 2 loads laundry -in progress -reading -done -language arts -double math lesson -science -piano practice -general house pick up -baths for all/ prep for activities tonight Let's see if I can get through the whole list!

MeaganS
So far so good this week. Yesterday we didn't get much done because we had a doctor appointment for the baby in the morning, then co-op and girl scouts in the evening, but we did manage to squeeze in reading for all three big girls and math for dd5. DD5 just started Beast Academy this week and is loving it quite a bit. I also decided to skip ahead a lot in MEP for her since it seemed like it was just too easy for a while. The girls are also loving Prodigy Math. I'm really frustrated atm because our co-op, which I have been LOVING just changed their policy and will no longer have a PreK class and won't let dd5 participate in older classes like they previously did. This means that dd5 would need to be in mandatory K'er class next year based on her birthday and dd3 (almost 4) won't get to be in a class at all, even though she currently is. It is a huge bummer for us. DD5 was really looking forward to finally being old enough to do real classes and not just letter of the week type activities. So yeah, it won't work for us anymore and now I need to find another solution. Basically it comes down between CC and another co-op that meets about a half hour away and doesn't have nearly the options this one does. Bleh. Today we did all of school except dd7 still needs to do her Hoffman Academy lesson. School went well. I'm trying to figure out what we will do with our afternoon. It is the first cold day in a while, so maybe we will go to the children's museum because I really don't want to do laundry. Hmm...
Critterfixer
Well, the planned day off took longer than anticipated and wasn't much fun at all. We ended up out of town for most of the day with our old cat who needed eye surgery, and the rest of the day tending to her post-operative needs. I enjoy having all my critters, but all these old critters with their health issues do drain me sometimes. Today's schedule: French-Unit 11 Latin-Continue lesson 18 Math-Lesson 7, 1 page of Key to Decimals Grammar and Composition-Spelling practice, work on non-fiction narrative, grammar lesson from Harvey's History/Science-swap from Monday Literature-swap from Monday For me: Take care of old cat and her eye, French, Latin, Geometry, a little cooking and housekeeping, writing (goal of 2500 words today).
MrsRobinson
Critter- poor kitty! :( Is anyone else wondering where everyone has gone lately? I'm missing soror, sahamamama, mama25, sdel-, among others. Busy time of year I guess. As for my list yesterday, I did pretty good. Didn't get the double math lesson in but its raining here so we might get it in today. Today's original schedule: -Reading -Language arts -Math -Science -Piano lessons -Trip to PaPas land to see his house at framing stage. I want them to see each stage and learn the basics of how a house is built. Not a high priority for their education but might as well take advantage of the opportunity. -Then to PaPa's current house for dinner. However, the rain has changed things. Revised schedule: -reading -language arts -math -done -science -done -2nd math lesson -piano lessons -make chocolate banana bread -kids choice rainy day activity -catch up on laundry (yesterday's 2 loads didn't cut it)

Tawlas
Hi ladies! Just wanted to pop back on and say hi. These past six weeks have been so ridiculous. I'm trying not to let it bother me that we haven't done a ton of formal school. Now, I think we can finally get back to it but I've modified some of my plans so I don't feel panicky lol. Today is ds's ninth bday! Starting our modified spring schedule tomorrow. We now have one milk cow, six pigs and lambs and calves being born every day. Who needs science curriculum anyhow, right :P

Just trying to make sure I'm using my time online wisely! Between the challenge, schooling and appointments, I'm not always getting a chance to post. I'm having some trouble with my temporary crown and we're still trying to figure out if Ds has glaucoma or not. We got SSS in the mail today and my youngest is super excited, he'd been doing duolingo, but we really needed something at his level to help with grammar. His music has also really improved and I'm excited for that. Older Ds math has improved and guess what? Monday I allowed him to stay home instead of going with us to youngests music lesson, on the condition that he did his math, well HE DID IT! He only missed TWO problems. There are no words to tell you how much I love R&S math! Citter-hope kitty feels better soon! Edited April 7, 2016 by mama25angels

Critterfixer
Kitty is doing better today. She's squinting less and moving around more. The eye still looks dreadful, but better. Still taking drops multiple times a day and pain medicine several times a day. There's a lot on my plate today. I'm not sure everything is going to get done, but we'll just start with school and go until we drop, I guess! Today's schedule: French-Unit 11 (last day) Latin-review Latin grammar, last workbook page for lesson 18. I might spring a quiz on them if it isn't too long. Math-Lesson 8, page of Key to Decimals Grammar/Composition-spelling test, diagramming compound elements, free writing History/Science-read the last chapter of The Black Death and the last part of Planet Guides, Venus Literature-Cp 5 Robin Hood, and the tale about the rooster and the fox in Canterbury Tales (Boys will have to trade out with history/science and literature today so that everything gets read) For me: French, Latin, Geometry (try to finish out circles today so that I start constructions next week), 2,500 words on my novel, a very little housekeeping, some cooking, +/-visit some beehives to hunt for a queen in a small swarm, go to the local library.
MrsRobinson
So remember yesterday I scratched The Original Schedule in favor of The Revised Schedule? Well, by noon The Revised Schedule was thrown out the window and we were onto The Survival Plan. A family member is now receiving hospice care and family is flying in from all over to say their goodbyes. I am only related by marriage so my role is one of support. I took in my 2 preschool age nephews and they will be with us for the foreseeable future. Adding to the fun is a city wide boil order! Yay! If I ever had any doubts as to my kids handwashing habits, they are were unfounded. Now that I've had to stop them every. single. time. they've used the bathroom, I'm pretty sure they are reliable handwashers. I now have a giant bottle of hand sanitizer on their bathroom counter to remind them. I also got the LAST 24 pack of bottled water at the dollar store near my house. Hopefully this doesn't last much longer. School is out the window today. I plan on doing some reading aloud and audiobooks when everyone starts fighting. Which, with ages 1,3,4,5 and 8 and 1 girl against 4 boys, fighting is a sure bet. A science-y video will work well here too. So something will get recorded. Just not sure what yet.
Sahamamama
We're getting a lot done this week, I promise! :) Usually, when I'm not checking in as much on the ATs, it's because I'm either (1) sick and wiped out, or (2) we're getting a whole lot accomplished! ;) We set our end-of-school-year goals for April, May, some into June, and a few things (very minimal) in July. Our main buckle-down work will be this month and next, and I told them that if we reach Point X by Date Y, we really will have the summer "off." Along with that, we're planning to do something (hopefully substantially) different next year, and much of that is dependent on our work getting done now, so the girls are extremely motivated to finish this year up with a strong effort. They are increasingly intrinsically motivated, and this is interesting to watch develop in my own children. Now I'll just have to keep up with them.... hmm.... In addition to school work, we are entering into that "how to" phase, where they are ready (and mostly willing, LOL) to learn how to do so many things. Cooking, baking, cleaning, organizing, laundering, ironing (what's that?), mending, hand sewing, machine sewing, crocheting, knitting, embroidery, gardening, yard work, and something else I forgot. Plus, hubby started a new (better) job this week, one in which he's actually out of the house, praise God! Enough of this "working from home" already. So, we are adjusting to this new piece, as well. The girls have one more week for Awana, three more choir practices, two concerts, three more nature study classes, and four more church midweeks. That wraps up outside activities until September. I'm still thinking about what we will or will not line up for next year. Well, gotta go. Work is calling. Sahamamama
+/- Visit some beehives to hunt for a queen in a small swarm... I want to come, too. Aren't honeybees amazing? My dad -- at 83, an avid gardener, woodstover, recycler [aka "junker'], and all around knowledgable guy -- is friends with a 73 year old beekeeper, who also gardens, practices archery, has a woodstove, and flies model aircraft. These two men have the neatest friendship. Their conversations go from colony collapse disorder* to tomato staking (to stake or not to stake, that is the question) to drones (not bees, that is). My dad's friend hates drones. He says that most operators are responsible, but he thinks a few stupid people will mess up the freedom that model aircrafters have enjoyed. So, he hates drones, but he loves his bees. ;) And, just because I can't resist today, here's one of the choir songs my girls will sing in a few weeks (not all of it, though). It's really fun when a bunch of 9-14 year olds sing it to a ragtime piano! "Chuckle, knuckle, nickel, fickle, pickle! I love to rhyme!" * In our house, we have CCD on the calendar every three weeks. My dad said, "CCD? Are you studying Colony Collapse Disorder?" The girls said, "No, Pop Pop, that means 'Chore Change Date.'" When I was growing up, CCD was where the Catholic kids went after school. It meant "Confraternity of Christian Doctrine" (religious instruction), but they called it Central City Dump. Edited April 7, 2016 by Sahamamama

Tawlas
Well . . . we got math done and everyone sat down and read for at least 20 minutes (though dd9 did it during her quiet time). That's it?! Oh wait. dd9 and ds9 did spelling early today. Man. I didn't get in from chores until 1030. Need to get more reading in (both older kdis are so close to being done their phonics books it's not even funny), grammar (cause I want to finish the book darn it!) and writing (again, only 1 1/2 lessons left to go!) done. Plus as much history as the morning has time for. . . nothing specific to finish, just don't want to abandon it altogether.
