MeganW Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 If Singapore 4A & 4B were not at all challenging to your child, and you were going to skip a year, would you skip 5A & 5B, or 6A & 6B? (He goes to a university model school that uses Singapore Standards Edition, so I can't just do both at double pace - we have to choose a year to skip.) Thanks! Quote
kbutton Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 6, but we are using US Edition if that makes a difference. Level 6 has a few new concepts, but they build on stuff learned in level 5, and level 5 has a lot more actual instruction. Quote
Arcadia Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 Could you do 5A & 5B over summer? I have one kid did 5A, 5B, 6A and 6B over summer because he wanted to. My other kid skip 6A & 6B by his choice and went slower with aops prealgebra. If you have to choose, I'll skip 6A & 6B. I do think doing 6A & 6B benefitted my fast kid because of the extra practice before aops. He found prealgebra easy. Quote

prairiewindmomma Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 I would just fast-forward through the books, I wouldn't outright skip one. If I had to pick, I'd pick 6B. 6B overlaps the most with the pre-algebra we did. Quote
Baile Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 What program/level does the school use after Singapore 6? I would definitely not skip Singapore 5, and I think it would be too much for most kids to cover in a summer. Like a couple previous posters have mentioned, Singapore 6 has some overlap with pre-algebra, so going from Singapore 5 to most pre-algebra courses would be manageable. Quote
MrSmith Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 5 has some meaty stuff in it; would not recommend to skip that. 6 is the weakest, and IIRC doesn't have much in way of 'new' material that isn't repeated later. Drop 6 if you must, but consider compacting if possible. Quote
Cindyz Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 My son flew through Singapore and we skipped 6 with no regrets in AOPS PreAlgebra. Quote
