Wabi Sabi Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 Do you help your child edit/proofread his or her rough drafts before they turn in their rough draft or is he/she expected to do that on his or her own? Quote
Homeschoolmom3 Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 I think it depends on the age and maturity. My oldest didn't want me to look at his papers he submitted in Middle school from about 7th grade on. He was fairly grounded and so I let him run. :-) My middle son, who is in 7th this year is still needing some look overs and some gentle reminders and some guidance before submitting his work. I think within another year he will be good, but I think it really helps anyone to have a quick look to point out any errors one might have missed. Quote
clementine Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 I am all for helping kids edit and revise papers. Sitting with them one-on-one and going through a paper together can be very beneficial to them. IF a parent just tells the child what to correct, that isn't appropriate IMO, real learning about format & composition can take place if it can be tackled together. 1 Quote
Arcadia Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 My DS11 wants me to read after he proof read and I would let him know if he has missed any spelling errors and if he has too many run on sentences. He edits his own. My kids german teachers don't mind anyone proofreading but not editing. So pointing out spelling and grammar errors for kids to make their corrections before submitting are fine but editing it to sound better is not. Quote
