umsami Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 (edited) No idea if there are any architecture fans out there... but as a woman... as a Muslim... just so sad about this. She was so amazingly talented. The fact that she was a woman... Iraqi... Muslim.... and recognized as good as her male peers was huge. I'm sad that she died in Miami...in hospital....away from her home and friends. I hope it was a peaceful and quick passing...although heart attacks in hospital usually are not. :( http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-35936768 Edited March 31, 2016 by umsami 1 Quote
gaillardia Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 Thank you for sharing. I've never heard of her. She designed furniture, shoes, buildings and more. Wonderful "signature curves and undulations" I think it the article states. I'm a fan of women, and Muslim women, and architects. Please, ladies, have your hearts checked. I'm still under 60 and could have died a few years ago from an undiagnosed heart problem. 1 Quote
Pam in CT Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 I was not familiar with her either, though my aspiring architect son was. I love the undulating theme. Thanks for sharing. 1 Quote
umsami Posted March 31, 2016 Author Posted March 31, 2016 Here's some of her work: http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-london-34340233?SThisFB%3FSThisFB Her firm's site is down, but will likely be up later. I know there are some of her designs here in the States. One is the Broad Art Museum at Michigan State in Lansing, Michigan. http://broadmuseum.msu.edu/about/photo-gallery Quote
