AimeeM Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 This is mostly for laughs, but really - I'm curious what everyone else thinks, lol. Really, her interests, strengths, and weaknesses are so varied (and in many cases, "opposites") that I can't imagine WHAT she will do as an adult. She likes... Art, baking, cooking, politics, logic, arguing, science (depending on the field) She is... Dyslexic and ADHD; highly emotional but, at the same time, closes herself off; faithful (as in, full of her faith, defensive of it, and also an overall "faithful" and loyal person). She is highly "justice minded" and takes personal offense when she feels a situation isn't, or can't be, dealt with "justly." She is introspective and tends to be very analytical, and critical, of everyone (including herself). Pretty naturally cynical. She doesn't really care what anyone thinks, especially if she considers their opinion "ridiculous", which can be both a blessing and a curse. Outspoken. Her strengths are... Big picture thinking, art, arguing/debating, loyalty (she is fiercely loyal to those she loves, in particular, despite the age difference, her much younger brothers) Her weaknesses are... Patience, following directions, time management, thinking before she speaks, writing. She also struggles with being sympathetic. I separate this from compassion - because she seems to find it easy to be compassionate, as something she *does*, but struggles to put herself in another's shoes unless she has personally been in that position before. She can struggle with details. Put a problem on the board and ask her to come to the answer, she can do it; ask her to break it down and show you how she got there, and she melts. <---- This is life for her, not just math :) Easily overwhelmed by "much" or "many." Until just this past year, she needed a handmade chart (that I made for her) on the back of her door to show her, step by step, how to clean her room when it got out of control (i.e. "put your books on the bookshelf," "put dirty clothes in the hamper," "put clean clothes in your closet or dresser," etc). In the past year alone, she has wanted to be a baker, a lawyer, a SN teacher, a therapist, a physicist, and a physician. For funnies, what would you peg her as doing as an adult? (other than driving us crazy - she is only half joking when she suggests, that when she is an adult and moved out, that Dad should call her every night to ask if she's turned off the stove before bed) Quote
DebbS Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 She sounds quite a bit like me. I'm a systems analyst/programmer. I never did top down design...the whole thing just comes into my mind at once, database design, screen designs, how to program it...everything. I am dyslexic and ADD.I have a very difficult time multi-tasking and often find normal everyday tasks overwhelming. Yet I can focus on a programming or writing project for 8 to 10 hours at a time and even forget to do things like eat. 1 Quote
wintermom Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 Kind of sounds like something in politics or policy might be of interest, though she may do something on the artistic side before or after she gets there. Quote
