bttrflyvld
What have you done to help your kids get the most out of the program? Do you add anything to it or use the program as a complete program? How long/or how many lessons do you have the kids do a day?
mb4
We have used it for 4 years and we love it. I have my kids use it for 20- 30 minutes a day as a supplement to their regular math assignments (Singapore.) I would not recommend using it as your only math curriculum. As long as the kids are finishing the lessons (and not exiting them) then Dreambox will automatically put them at the right level. It has been very accurate at keeping my kids at a good spot- challenging but not too hard they get frustrated. I like it's use of manipulatives, ten frames, the abacus, number lines etc. I occasionally check the parent dashboard to see where they are at. Other than that I just hand it to them and insist they play. You can also get it for over half-off at homeschoolbuyerscoop.com.
prairiewindmomma
One of my children has a dream box account. We use it for reinforcement. I would be hesitant to call it a complete program.
u2006kids
not a complete program. But should try it out. Really good with the concepts
nature girl
We used it for awhile along with RS, as a fun reinforcement...They go perfectly together, but yes, as the others have said it's really only a supplement. (Ultimately DD got bored with the repetition, the number of times she needed to do the same type of problem in order to progress, so we stopped using it. She'd walk away midstream, which I think messed with the adaptive leveling. It really is a fantastic program, though.)
camino
I aim for about 10-20 minutes a day with my fourth grader so that he does about an hour a week. We use it as a supplement for Singapore. My younger kids do it for fun every once in a while.
Targhee
My younger 3 use DreamBox. We've had subscriptions for two years now, and just renewed again. The main math for DD9 is BA 3, and for DS11 it is SM 5. We spend an hour a day, 4 days a week, on math. Typically I have a set number of pages in BA for DD to complete, and a set number of exercises for DS to complete. If they finish and the hour is still going they do DreamBox. Some times when they need a little more time digesting a concept in their main math program I will give them less in their main math and let them work more in DreamBox. Because we buy through HSBC I only have parental access (vs teacher access) and cannot make any changes to the topics they encounter on the program. That's OK by me, though. I kind of look at DreamBox as way to both get reinforcement or introduce a concept in a different format from that which we do in their main math. ETA: DD4 uses it to "do school" while I am working with one of the other kids. She is still doing the K level concepts, and we do occasional lessons in RS A and with c-rods besides. Chrysalis Academy
Dd9 uses it as a supplement to our main math program. She's done all of the 3rd grade level and most of 4th grade this year. I think it is especially strong on teaching things like place value, the distributive property, things like that to a really deep level. She's running into the issue now that she's ahead in Dreambox of where she is in our math program (MM) and it doesn't offer enough teaching for her to figure out the new stuff - Integers and Adding Fractions. If I take a little time to explain the basics to her she can forge ahead. She mostly likes it, she's stuck with it for longer than anything else she's ever tried. I like the tools & manipulatives and I know it helps her understand the concepts deeply.
bttrflyvld
Nice. I think we may try it in August as a go along to our Saxon.
Ahodgson923
Dreambox is on homeschool buyers co-op through today. Not sure how good the deal is, as I haven't looked into it before. Just noticed it when I placed my order for Math Mammoth. :)
