Kolbe literature program

Any reviews of the Kolbe literature program, both elementary and junior high?

I've looked at it, but haven't used it.

 

Expect a lot of comprehension questions.

I think the book reports are too difficult.

I also think the books, although all good books, favor boys.

There are lots of samples on the Kolbe website.

Questions are straightforward comprehension questions.

 

The weekly written assignments which are much more difficult. They are much more complex, without any preparation for it. 

 

They would be better if the questions covering the chapter would point to details that might help guide kids to notice and think about the topic of the weekly written assignments.

DS has been doing the elementary one for two years. There have been a few kinks, but overall I've liked it. I would agree about the weekly writing assignments. We sometimes have to sit down and talk those out before he writes. And I gave up having him do book reports. They're pretty senseless IMO.
