Scuff Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 I've been reading through all the geometry posts and am feeling a little overwhelmed by all the choices. If you liked the style of Foerster's, which Geometry did you use? I do want something with proofs and can teach it, but want a solutions manual. I loved Geometry when i was in high school. Quote
crazyforlatin Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 I would think Jurgensen as it is straight-forward like Foerster, has a range of problems, and even has algebra review problems. The teacher manual is not that cheap, around $45 to $65. 2 Quote
Janeway Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 (edited) I got an older version of Jurgensons and compared it to the newer 2000 version. They were exactly the same, right down to the problem sets. The only difference was a few pages in the appendix. I paid $15. I can check the date if you like. Edited March 28, 2016 by Janeway 1 Quote
Scuff Posted March 28, 2016 Author Posted March 28, 2016 (edited) I can pay for the manual, if I must. ;) I couldn't find the Foerster's Manual used and had to buy it new for $65 That was a bit of a let down to pay so much and get a thin, tiny, plain paperback. Felt like it needed a little gold plating or something  This Solution Manual?: http://www.amazon.com/Geometry-Solution-Ray-C-Jurgensen/dp/0395677661?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00 Edited March 28, 2016 by Scuff Quote

Brad S Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 You may also want to consider Harold Jacobs Geometry. We used the 3rd edition with the AskDrCallahan.com videos (rarely used the videos, however) and were very pleased with the text (although not the algebra review problems, where you could use chapter reviews with another book or start Foerster's next book slowly, concurrently, so the algebra doesn't get rusty, and the Jacobs Geometry course can probably be done in less than full time of a school year); some people have also liked Jacobs's 2nd edition. We used Foerster after Jacobs, so it's not the same order, but the combination worked fairly well for us. Quote
JadeOrchidSong Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 One question: What is the difference btw Jacobs 2nd and 3rd edition geometry? If my student like direct instruction without discovery approach, which one will fit? Thanks! Quote

We ran the 3rd edition as basically direct instruction without a discovery approach. Edited April 3, 2016 by Brad S Quote
JadeOrchidSong Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 Another vote for Jurgensen! How do you use Jurgensen? Do you use TM and Answer Key books? Quote
Liza Q Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 How do you use Jurgensen? Do you use TM and Answer Key books? My son is doing it with Seton this year. I have a few reviews posted...let me find a link or two and get back to you!! Quote
Liza Q Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 I explained how Seton works in these two threads - http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/563290-geometry/?hl=%2Bseton+%2Bgeometry&do=findComment&comment=6784230 http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/542377-jurgenson-geometry/?hl=%2Bseton+%2Bgeometry&do=findComment&comment=6576519 Quote
