I started having dizziness/vertigo last week, at first I attributed it to low BP from my thyroid- it got down to 80/47(pulse in the low 60s)- which really feels quite terrible but BP has improved and it is still there. I had a 5k scheduled on Sat am and ran it, albeit slower than I practiced as I was afraid of passing out- when I finished I nearly fell from the dizziness but was able to steady myself and once I sit down I recovered quickly and have felt better and my bp has been doing better- now in the 90/100s/60s, which isn't all that low for me BUT I'm still feeling dizzy, not as dizzy but still dizzy. My glucose levels are normal. I'm trying to suck down the fluids just in case I'm a bit dehydrated as well as upping my B vitamins. This is not a thyroid symptom I've had but searching brings it up. Has anyone else had dizziness as a symptom of hypothyroidism independent of their BP? I'm due to get blood drawn this week for an April consult so if anyone has any ideas about anything that needs to be tested I'm all ears. I'm rather ready for this to be done, I've got Silks practice on Tues and as it is I don't know how that is going to go :(

I had multiple episodes of vertigo when I had low b12.  I'm on injections now and haven't had an episode in a few years.  I have pernicious anemia and my stomach can't absorb b12.  It's an autoimmune condition.  I'd ask to have b12 and folic acid levels checked.  I don't know if you've had problems with vitamin d deficiency or not.  That's always a good one to get checked.

I have vertigo (BPPV) on and off, but I can't say that it relates to my thyroid condition at all. The vertigo is worse when I'm retaining fluids, so I take a diuretic since it also helps with my blood pressure. I have gotten dizzy when my blood pressure has gone too low, but I've only had low blood pressure once. Also in my teens I was dizzy a lot, and it ended up being an iron deficiency. I went a year without any vertigo after my ENT performed an Epley maneuver, but now it's back after having some dental work. I can only think it was the drill he used. It was the one that makes your skull vibrate - I think it shook those crystals loose in my ear. That's my theory, anyway, lol. :tongue_smilie:

Vertigo is a common symptom of hypothyroidism. It's on the long and pathetic list of symptoms on the Stop the Thyroid Madness site.

Are you taking any thyroid meds? Do you know your Free T3 and Free T4 levels?

I don't know much about thyroid, but I do get dizzy if I am low on salt.  My blood pressure drops and my legs feel so heavy, I feel like I am walking through water.

If you have been working on rehydrating, you may want to make sure at least a portion of it is electrolytes and sodium.

Yes, I had significant trouble with vertigo and dizziness prior to my hypothyroid diagnosis.  Once I was put on levothyroxine and it had a few weeks to kick in I've been fine and haven't had any dizziness/vertigo at all in many months.  Low BP wasn't an issue for me -- my hypohyroid symptoms were weird in that my BP and heart rate increased rather than decreased as is typical.  Since I've been on medication my BP and heart rate have come back down to what is normal for me (which is pretty low for both).  And FWIW before diagnosis and medication I was also very abnormally hot (rather than cold as is typical).

Ugh.  Never even thought about the possible dental connection.

You can do that manuever by yourself, or with your husband or another person helping you.  You don't need the doctor, once you know what to do.  (Youtube can remind you).

Unfortunately, I had to do this a week or so ago. The first night, I somehow got the rotation out of sequence and it didn't help.  The second night, I realized what I had done, watched a video about it first, and did it correctly.  Resolved.

-I'm on thyroid meds, NDT and Cytomel, and I'm due to get my levels retested this week, been diagnosed about 2 yrs, have done ok at times but having trouble getting and keeping optimized

-I was low somewhat low on iron and b's so I've been religiously supplementing- haven't had them rechecked yet- will this week

- I've been drinking lots of electrolytes and straight up salt water- to help get rebalanced and hopefully get my BP higher

-did have a sinus/cold thing a couple of weeks ago

I wonder about some adrenal connection as I felt soooo very much better after I ran the 5k, which I attributed to the adrenaline. I expect my thyroid levels to be low when I get tested, how low is the question. I was feeling decent, then started slipping just a bit and then last week- not good. I did also have my period too- my hormones have been a bit off though, so many variables.

Had my blood drawn today, unfortunately I forgot to skip my iron supplements so those tests won't be accurate but the rest should be(including b's, d's, insulin levels and a full thyroid panel). I'm heading steady about the same, off and on dizziness and nausea. Energy level is not real good. I got to feeling ok yesterday evening and did my regular yoga class without trouble but then afterwards I felt dizzy again. I keep randomly choking too- which makes me paranoid that my thyroid nodules have grown but it is more of a dry throat choking- which doesn't seem to fit that. Last Thurs my right arm went numb for an hour after a walk. Lots of random stuff that just seemed to have pop up all of a sudden. I did take 2 pregnancy tests and that isn't the issue, although the nausea reminds me of morning sickness- which was made better by eating- although when I check my BG levels haven't been low. Unbelievably frustrating, I have an active life and want to keep it that way. I'm going to Silks tonight, we'll see how it goes.

soror,Sorry you are gong thru this.I had the exact same thing in September, went to my pcp who put me on ferrous sulfate 1xday.

By November I had only slightly improved. Then I saw a nutritionist who works at my Chiropractors clinic who ran additional tests

It was my iron(ferritin) the numbers had not changed in 2 months. .So he put me on floradix and it took me a 2 moths to feel better,I get my levels drawn next month.

The Choking,Nausea all were symptoms for me too.

Apart from iron I am on D3(mine was very low) and B12 sublingual and 1 tsp of mag calm.

I have hypothyroidsim as well

It was the nutritionist who did all the tests not the pcp.GL

Edited to add some details!

Thanks so much for answering, sorry to hear you are going through it too. Are you feeling better now? I do think my b's and iron are likely low. The b deficiency came up several lists for my symptoms, as did anemia, both were a bit borderline before so I had been supplementing but I wonder if it just wasn't enough. I ordered some new b's- switching to some Thorne ones that a friend had good luck with. Hopefully I can get access to my labs before my appt so I at least have a clue what is going on.

Thank you for asking,Yes I am almost back to normal, the floraix made a world of difference for me,It was the iron level that was really low.

The B I am taking is natural factors.

You could be right it could be that the dosage or the type you are taking may not getting absorbed by your body.

You said your thyroid levels looked fine right?

I actually searched here for the iron and told my Dr about it and he was fine with me getting it.

I have tried it on myself, but the results didn't last as long for some reason. I am going to try it again but I've got to re-watch the videos. If it doesn't help, the physical therapist that my son went to last year will do it for $100. The ENT charged me $350 and that was after a discount!!!

Fabulous that you are feeling better and thanks so much for responding, it makes a person feel a little less crazy to have someone go through the same thing.

I think my iron is good, as it worked before to raise my levels when they were super low, I just think I need more than I've been taking. Honestly, I don't think my thyroid levels are fine, I'd guess I need a med increase but we'll see. I feel like I've got multiple things going on.

That's insane for turning your neck a few times.

Ahhh! Watch Dr. Chen, I think it is, with House Chiropractic on YouTube. So simple and straightforward!

I greatly upped my iron yesterday and today, so far so good. No nausea yet today, started having a bit of dizziness around lunch although not as severe. Some improvement in energy. I've randomly choked twice today, no better or worse. Anyway, I'm going to take it for a positive sign. I've not been vertical this late in the day in a week.
