SparklyUnicorn
I think I've subscribed to every cooking magazine at one time or another. I'm always on the look out for one I haven't tried. And I'm itching for a new cookbook. Anyone?

Stacia
Not new, but the Thug Kitchen is fun (as long as you don't mind profanity) & tasty.

Stacia
I love profanity. LOL Well, &%#@, my rec was right on, woman! :smilielol5: ;) :D Their food is actually tasty (& easy to make, which is important to me since I'm not much of a cook) & I found the &%^$ing commentary funny. They also have a party food book that came out more recently, but I haven't seen it. (I have a hard enough time cooking for my family; I can't imagine cooking for a party. Lol.)
ajfries
I let my subscription lapse awhile ago, but I really enjoyed Simple & Delicious magazine. There was at least 2 recipes every issue that became tried and true for our family.

Years ago it was one of my favorites, but over time it's a hit or miss if I find a recipe I like in it. But it's still fun to flip through it and get some inspiration. Guest
Our Favorites are the Great British Book of Baking and Cooking for Isaiah. Son 2 recently found a diet/cookbook he likes called Always Hungry. I haven't made anything from it yet, though.

I think at some point I realized that most of the recipes were on their website, but to be honest, I don't peruse the website...ever, really. MrsRobinson
Dh bought me Ree's new cookbook, Dinnertime. The whole family has loved every recipe I've made from it.
LucyStoner
I love Thug Kitchen but it's vegan Wendy and fairly high carb which I recall is a problem for you. I think Smitten Kitchen would be right up your alley. More meat. Lots of things with bacon. http://www.amazon.com/The-Smitten-Kitchen-Cookbook-Perelman/dp/030759565X

G5052
Yeah, she is the one with the dancing bacon. Even if you don't cook the Thug Kitchen stuff, it's fun to read. Yes, I found Thug Kitchen highly amusing. I just checked it out from the library to see what the press was about. Not my style of cooking, but great writing for what it is.
wonderchica
I recently got my mom the Desserts for Two cookbook. The author has a blog with recipes that's I've tried with great results. She does a variety of smaller portioned desserts, like making brownies in a loaf pan etc. Nice when you don't want a ton tempting you around the house, or are low on ingredients when a craving hits!
Ellie
My favorites for many years have been America's Test Kitchen/Cooks Country. Anything. Everything. Because of my autoimmune stuff, I've also bought a couple of autoimmune/paleo cookbooks, which have some decent recipes: "The Autoimmune Paleo Cookbook," and "The Healing Kitchen." Hikin' Mama
I didn't buy, but checked out from the library, Ree's (Pioneer Woman) newest, which is called Dinnertime, I think. I loved everything I made from it. She's not everyone's cup of tea, but I've liked her recipes that I have tried.
Carol in Cal.
Savory Baking is absolutely incredible. It applies baking techniques to making savory food rather than desserts. With stunning results. GREAT vegetarian main dishes, though not vegan.
LucyStoner
It's no problem to add a side of cow on. But yeah, I'm not really into vegan. I have un-vegan-ed certain things from Thug Kitchen. Unless I am serving vegans, I don't go out of my way to use veggie broth instead of the copious amounts of chicken stock I have in the freezer. Also, in a few recipes I replace soy protien with chicken. Mostly though, it's not a good book if you are trying to low carb it. Lots of wraps and sandwiches, lots of rice and legumes. I'm not low carb so not an issue here but I remember that low carb is something that works for you.

I seem to remember that Sparkly tried the standard menus and didn't care for them, but I do well with the (carby) vegetarian ones. As we're not vegetarians though, I throw in whatever meat stock I have around: last night it was ham baking juice into a cabbage, leek and cannelini (sp?) bean saute. Everyone loved it. eternalsummer
It's not new or niche or anything but the one we use all the time is Mark Bittman's How to Cook Everything. It has a little bit of...everything. :)
Miss Tick
I got a few recipes out of Thug Kitchen, but I found it suspicious that the authors were so low-key, no pictures, hard to find their names. So is the whole thing an act?

Carol in Cal.
This cookbook is appallingly good, and the recipes are not that hard if you have a food processor and a kitchen aid mixer. You do need parchment also. http://www.amazon.com/The-Back-Day-Bakery-Cookbook/dp/1579654584?ie=UTF8&keywords=back%20in%20the%20day%20bakery%20cookbook&qid=1458893116&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1 I want to buy and try this one: http://www.amazon.com/German-American-Cookies-Angelika-Price/dp/1493654845/ref=sr_1_14?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1458893284&sr=1-14&keywords=cookie+cookbooks I have this one, which looks fantastic, and I love the concept of it, but haven't tried it yet: http://www.amazon.com/Unexpected-Cookbook-Unofficial-Hobbit-Cookery-ebook/dp/B00X944TFG/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1458893720&sr=8-1&keywords=tolkien+cookbook Ditto this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1440538913/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_1?pf_rd_p=1944687702&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B00EJ0NLNA&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=09Z28FWATD0QD1F5RYQ4
