I left all this in my car overnight (in cooler bags) for about 9 hours. Waaaahhhhh

 

 

Milk, cream, and cheese - I know these are ok, they might spoil faster than usual.

 

 

Here's the stuff I'm not sure about

 

3lb uncooked bacon

 

Pre-cooked bacon

 

3 dozen eggs

 

 

Everything was slightly cool but not cold.

What was the outside temperature most of the night?

I'd definitely eat the eggs. Eggs really don't need refrigeration at all.  And unless it was really warm out, I'd use the bacon, provided it didn't look or smell bad. Bacon is so preserved, it lasts forever anyway. Same with the pre-cooked bacon. We leave cooked bacon lying out all the time when we do picnics and such. I'd think it would be the same.

It was about 55 degrees overnight. Everything was in cooler bags in my car, in the garage.

So, I'm definitely keeping the cooked bacon.

 

I'm still unsure of the uncooked bacon and the eggs. I could just let the kids dye all these eggs. I don't usually give them that many to dye.

The eggs should be good. I don't collect the from the chickens every day and the eggs are fine. You could float test them if you are worried though. Good eggs should not float.

The eggs would not scare me at all. The only thing I would probably get rid of is the bacon, but that may be because I've been buying preservative-free bacon for so long that I'm overly cautious. Everything else I'd use up as quickly as possible, but I'd feel comfortable eating it all and feeding it to my kids.

The eggs and dairy and cooked bacon are fine.  I used to live in university housing where we kept eggs stacked in 12 dozen flats out in the kitchen all the time, and they were fine.  The uncooked bacon I would cook up today, all of it, and eat some of it (BLTs anyone?) and freeze the rest in bags of crumbles for salad or stuffing.  I think it's fine but it will spoil much faster because of being left out.

While it's true that fresh eggs, straight from the chicken, don't need to be refrigerated, that's not the case with store bought eggs.  Eggs (in the US anyway) are washed before packaging.  This removes the protective coating from the outside of the shell, which leaves the porous shell exposed to pathogens.  That's why store eggs are refrigerated.  That being said, as long as you cook the eggs thoroughly before eating them, and as long as you keep them refrigerated after you cook them, they should be fine.  The thing about eggs is they smell terrible when they go bad.  

 

Here's what I would do.  I would go ahead and hard boil the eggs, and decorate them, as usual.  I would break one open, to check it.  If it smelled and tasted okay, then store the rest in the refrigerator and consume them as quickly as possible.  I'd toss them after a couple days anyway because I don't like the rubbery texture or bland taste of boiled eggs that have been sitting around longer than that.  

 

If the uncooked bacon looks the least bit green, or if it's special (healthy, labeled No Nitrates for instance) or something that means it's less processed/preserved than regular bacon, I'd toss it.

 

If the cooked bacon wasn't refrigerated when you bought it, then it's fine.  If it was refrigerated, you may want to cook it again, heating it up to a sizzle.  That should kill any little microbes trying to breed on it.  

 

And, like you said, just try to consume the milk and cheese as quickly as you can.

Thanks everyone!!!

 

 

I'm going to cook all the bacon now and put it in the freezer to be used as needed.

 

 

I'm going to boil the eggs and let the kids dye/decorate them and then pitch them after the egg hunt.  We don't usually eat the eggs after that anyway, this is just more than usual.

I would eat all of it, provided the dairy are pasteurized products. We drink raw, so if raw milk was left out it would be a no-no, but for pasteurized at that temp I wouldn't bat an eye. 

 

Bacon is so salted that it's well preserved, so I wouldn't worry about that either.
