6packofun Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 Dd and I are making a BIG chalkboard this weekend with "Eucaboard" (sustainable eucalyptus particle board type stuff with one side that is very smooth!) to hang on our dining room wall. We realllly want to use chalkboard markers but are looking for a brand that will work, particularly on a chalkboard painted surface. Thanks! Quote
Arctic Bunny Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 Do you want it to come off easily/well? Quote

These were ruined after the first use just by putting the cap on. If you don't put it in exactly straight, the cylinder inside chews up the tip. :/ Quote
Rachel Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 I have Craft Smart which may be a Michaels store brand. If the chalkboard surface is not completely smooth, it is next to impossible to completely erase. They are vibrant colors though and easy to use. Quote
6packofun Posted March 24, 2016 Author Posted March 24, 2016 Do you want it to come off easily/well? Hmmm, these responses aren't boding well for this project. LOL We intend to make it very smooth, but at the same time, if we have to scrub with a magic eraser or something to get the marker removed, I feel like we're going to take off the chalkboard paint! Maybe I should be asking for regular chalk recommendations? Dd has a dust mite allergy so I was hoping to avoid the dustiness of actual chalk. :( (We have an old whiteboard, but I'm sick of using it and whiteboard markers stain clothes...we're clumsy clods here. LOL) Quote

LOL) I asked, because my former boss redid her menu board, and they painted their own chalkboard. She used the chalkboard markers for the parts she didn't want rubbed off, because when she started, she made a mistake, and it was nearly impossible to get it off. I'm not 100% sure, but she may have repainted the sections to start over. All this is very unhelpful because I don't remember the brand, but she got them at Michaels. Quote
Rachel Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 Well you can erase the ones I have but it always kind of leaves a shadow behind. I have a chalkboard in my kitchen that I write memory work on and draw pictures for birthdays. It's not distracting when you write over what you have erased, but I do notice it is there. Sometimes I color over the whole board and then erase before writing something new. Quote
EmseB Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 (edited) I used chalkboard markers from michaels and they erased with a wet paper towel, no scrubbing. What I had was a vinyl chalkboard month calendar, but I never had trouble getting the market off, even if it had been on there the whole month. Our wall had a bit of texture too. Eta: I think the brand was bistro? I also got some highly rated ones on Amazon and had no trouble with those either. Edited March 24, 2016 by JodiSue Quote
AndyJoy Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 I got some (not sure what brand) at the checkout at Hobby Lobby and DH will be repainting my cabinet door ;). They work beautifully on my chalkboard vinyl box labels though. Quote
Tap Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 We have Glo Shark brand. They write well but dried up after not being used for a bit. We used a wet wipe to wash the board when we wanted to get rid of shadows. Quote
