HRAAB Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 My dd is traveling to Germany this summer. Currently she has a Cricket phone. What would be a good cell phone service/plan to have while in Europe? I'm clueless. Oh, I have Virgin Mobile, if that makes a difference. 1 Quote
Lanny Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 Is her phone a GSM phone? Is her phone "unlocked"? Is her phone a "Quad Band" (so called "World: phone)? If so, it may have the GSM bands she needs to be able to use in Europe. In general, those are different from the main GSM bands used here in The Americas. Also, she will need another cable, with a different type of wall plug, to be able charge her phone in Europe, unless she is planning to plug it into a USB port on her laptop to charge the battery. OT: For personal safety in Europe, one should avoid: The U.S. Embassy, any business affiliated with the USA, tourist attractions, and large crowds. Check closely on the web site of the U.S. Embassy in any country one is visiting AND REGISTER with the ACS (American Citizen Services) in the Embassy of any country one is visiting. I hope she has a safe trip and enjoys her visit there. . , 1 Quote

I've only traveled in Europe one time, and that was 25 years ago so I'm not much help and don't know what to suggest. The study abroad office hasn't been of much help, either. A friend told her that AT&T has a study abroad plan that she is checking into. Thank you for the information on the phone. Neither of us were aware of the different kinds of phones you mentioned.
