athomeontheprairie Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 The other thread got me thinking. Lately I've been having headaches . And within the past couple months I've had several headaches that have knocked me out. I imagine they are migraines, but I guess I don't really know what the difference ibetween . And I'm curious about one in particular... it came on very suddenly down the sides and the back of my head . It made me overwhelmingly nauseous- as though the headache was also in my stomach. For a time I couldn't keep my eyes open. It was very hard to see and impossible to focus. I know I looked dazed and pale. As fast as it came it left, only to return a couple hours later Quote
Dulce Domem Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 The nauseousness & wanting to keep your eyes closed makes me think of a migraine. Migraines create terrible nausea. And strangely, if you can vomit, it often releases a lot of the pressure and helps the migraine to subside or lessen. Many migraine sufferers I know will actually cause themselves to vomit for that release. I've been known to occasionally, just to turn the tide of the migraine pain. However, I've never had a migraine WITHOUT an aura, so the aura is always my giveaway. So I'm not really sure how people differentiate migraine from regular headache - severity & other symptoms I suppose. I'm no help! Whatever it is, it sounds miserable. Quote
zoobie Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 Migraine, I'd guess. Mine can "lurk" and come back. Usually my head is physically tender to the touch, and I can almost feel the headache sitting there, waiting... There's a pressure behind my eyes and inside the skull that's different when it's lurking vs finished. The second wave is usually worse for me. Caffeine and Excedrin or 2 Aleve plus an ice pack in a dark room is my go-to. I've been taking a magnesium supplement to see if that helps prevent them. I didn't get a PMS-related one last month, so maybe. Quote
