JumpyTheFrog Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 Both my 4th and 1st grader started CLE Language Arts the second half of the school year. At the current rate, they won't finish all ten units for their grade. When they move up to their new grades in July, should I have them continue where they leave off or start with the next grade? I only bought the first three units this year to try them out before committing, so my decision won't be based on trying to use anything up. If it helps, the program is easy for my 4th grader, who is a grade or more ahead in most subjects. (Writing and spelling are the exceptions to this and the program doesn't cover writing and the spelling isn't very helpful for him.) Quote
JumpyTheFrog Posted March 22, 2016 Author Posted March 22, 2016 I looked through some of the samples online. I'm thinking I should have my 1st grader complete everything before moving on to the 2nd grade level. Unfortunately, they don't currently have samples of each unit up for 4th grade, so I am unable to tell if moving on to 5th grade on July would skip anything important. Does this program spiral or not? Quote
IdahoHomeschooler Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 Did you use the test to place the 4th grader? What level are you using? Quote
featherhead Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 They have a downloadable scope and sequence on their website you could look at to see what they would miss. For my kids, I would just have them start where they left off. The program does spiral, but there is constantly new information. 1 Quote
Storygirl Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 I think I would just have them continue on and not skip. CLE starts to get very difficult in level 600, and many people give it up at that point, so I wouldn't rush to get to that point. This is an advanced program compared to many other homeschooling programs, and it is much more rigorous than the work my school kids get in their classes. I wouldn't worry about trying to match grade level with the light unit level. 2 Quote
