Roseto27 Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 I would love to hear everything you all know about Linda Mood Bell LiPs. What do I need to purchase? Do I need to attend the training? What should I expect? What prerequisites do you feel a child should have before this program will be useful? What was your experience with the program? Where did your child start and what progress do you attribute to this program? Quote

Plink Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 We loved LiPS. It is a cumbersome manual to utilize, so give yourself some time to watch the videos and read through the material before you plan to begin. In particular pay attention to the two different "paths" that you can take with it, and figure out which one will fit your needs best. (Don't miss the section on stressed syllables. It is awesome!) We bought the readers, but they were nothing special, and we were finished with LiPS and had moved into Barton before they were necessary for lessons. I found that we tended to use the cards more than the letter tiles because the Barton tile app is so nice. The color tiles were nice though. You don't really need both the large and small versions. Just the small ones will do. Minimum: manual & playing deck 1 Quote
Jenn in CA Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 I would love to hear everything you all know about Linda Mood Bell LiPs. What do I need to purchase? Do I need to attend the training? What should I expect? What prerequisites do you feel a child should have before this program will be useful? What was your experience with the program? Where did your child start and what progress do you attribute to this program? No need to attend training IMO. Buy an older edition manual on Amazon and save lots of money. Photocopy the mouth pictures out of the book and then you don't have to buy them. The script was great and my child answered everything exactly as the book said she would. ;) But it was a lot to read and digest. I did it in the summer when I had some time. 1 Quote
Kanin Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 I LOVE LiPS and I wholeheartedly recommend it for anyone! I really feel that every school could teach LiPS along with their regular phonics program. Why not? SO many students would benefit, and those that don't "need" it would just learn a little extra. I agree that the bare minimum is the manual. You could photocopy the mouth pictures like Jenn in CA suggested. If the official ones aren't too expensive, though, I'd get those b/c the photocopies probably won't be as great quality. As for prerequisites, I'm not sure there really are any. Knowing the letter names would be helpful, but I don't think that's even necessary. My student knew the alphabet, "knew" what sound each letter made, yet he absolutely could not read even 2 or 3 letter words. One piece of advice I have is to incorporate as many nonsense words as you can. Some students are so good at guessing that they can fake you out! :) Order today! For real, LiPS is so awesome. 1 Quote
