SparklyUnicorn Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 walking on city sidewalks? We do mostly city walking and I find after a short time my legs feel like they will fall off. I think it's my shoes. My feet don't really hurt, but my legs kill me. I don't care if they aren't pretty either. Quote
Ottakee Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 I walk 2-3 miles on city streets and have a pair of Brooks Dyads from the running store. I do NOT run but they have been the best for me for walking. They are ugly though :-( a good running store might be a good bet as they can measure your feet and watch you walk and show you several styles best for you. They usually run $100-140 though so not cheap. 1 Quote

Acadie Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 Could be good shoes will do it for you, but if you have a an issue with alignment you may need orthotics. For example, I have extremely flat feet, and even the most cushy walking shoe needs serious arch support for me. I've found that having arch support in all my shoes--running shoes to slippers to walking shoes--keeps me feeling good. I have prescription arch support for my running shoes, built-in arch support in my Birkenstock sandals and slippers, and cheap over-the-counter arch support that I buy at Target and insert in my dress boots and shoes. You may not have specific issues with foot support and may just need a comfy shoe, which would be simpler to solve. I guess my general message is that there are lots of ways these days to make shoes more comfy, from built-in and insertable cushioning to prescription support. You can definitely find a way to feel better! Amy 1 Quote
Rachel Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 I would look for a good pair of cushioning running shoes. They'll run $100+. I like Brooks Adrenaline, but there are several styles of Brooks, Asics, Saucony, New Balance, Nike. Go to a specialty running store to get fitted but tell them you are looking for shoes for walking. They will help you find a good shoe. If you go with Nike, make sure you are getting a running shoe that is intended for running or walking like the Pegasus. Nike makes a million styles of shoes but not all styles are created equally. Other brands can be the same way too, but Nike is the brand that always tricks me. 2 Quote
purplejackmama Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 Have you ever tried compression socks? They help me immensely. 1 Quote
